  • I Wanted To Like It More

I watched this once a long time ago, and I must admit, I was kind of upset that I wasted my money on this old ass film. But I held onto the DVD, knowing one day I'd pop it in again to give it another chance. That day came, and I found myself enjoying the quaint-ness of the film rather than the film itself. It's a curio to me to see a film made before the horrifying tragedy that was WWII, and knowing that the people who made this film had no idea of what was to come. Yes, some of the scenes are very theatrical, but the message as clear today as when it was made, and I believe the "butterfly" scene examplifies that sentiment beautifully. If you're wanting to watch it, go into it knowing it's extremely dated, and maybe you won't have to eat your words like I did.

    All of Me  (1984)

Not a bad performance from Steve Martin. Lily Tomlin is a bit annoying, as is Martin's love interest/arch nemesis Victoria Tennant (but she is pretty sexy). It feels terribly dated, but seeing as how the 80's are (sadly) making some sort of comeback, maybe to some it will feel like a comedy classic. I just felt it was a lame comedy with a great comic in it.

    All About Eve  (1950)

Take that, theater denizens! One of the most biting satires I've ever seen, I was hesitant to see it because of it's age, but apart from some dated dialogue, it holds up wonderfully to this day, thanks to a sharp script, deft acting and more-than-able direction and cinematography. I'd say it's mostly for people who have been around the theater crowd, but really, anyone who's worked in an office can relate to the characters portrayed here. Watch it!

  • Oh, What Could've Been...

I know, I know...everyone seems to bitch about what a great movie A.I. could've been had Stanley Kubrick directed it. But it's true - watch the special features that come with the 2-Disc DVD set and you'll see what I mean. Some of the most powerful and startling images have been watered down for a "family friendly" feel. I will admit, though, that it's better than your average Spielberg film. It's beautifully shot and then ending leaves you with an almost overwhelming sense of loss and sadness. Not terrible by any means, but could have been one of the best films ever made - not just "decent by Spielbergian" standards.

  • Nowhere Near The First Film

A sad sequel. Jim Carrey's mannerisms aren't even the same, and you'll see what I mean if you watch the two films back to back. There are one or two genuine comedic moments, but too few and far between to keep my interest.

  • Jim Carrey On ADD Overdrive

I loved this film when it came out...and time has only slightly diminished it's appeal for me. Jim Carrey was at his comedic peak with this film, having just come off half a decade on Fox TV's In Living Color. The DVD release has always been one of the worst, and even the new widescreen release is sadly missing anything new, and as a matter of fact, is the shorter theatrical release...sad, sad, sad (considering the wealth of outtakes and alternate scenes that we've all seen on television and airline flights). Oh well, maybe one day Warner Bros will get it right.
