So-So Thriller From Stone & Parker

Under discussion:

Midnight Express  (1978)
Written by Oliver Stone and directed by Alan Parker (Mississippi Burning, The Life of David Gale), this is the almost-true-story of a young man's brutal prison term in a Turkish prison for attempting to smuggle hashish out of Istanbul. This story is greatly exaggerated for dramatic effect, but this is Alan Parker's modus operandi, as he did the same with The Road To Wellville and Mississippi Burning. I didn't much care for the score (which won an Oscar!?!) or the blatent homo-eroticism (just not my thing), but apart from this, the rest of the film was okay. Worth seeing at least once.
