Could Have Been So Much Better

Under discussion:

Man on Fire  (2004)
A mediocre film about redemption and revenge and the consequences of those actions. Denzel Washington's acting is decent, but I felt the MTV-style flash-and-pomp editing job was detrimental to the story. You could argue it effectively portrayed his confused state of mind (mostly seen when he was drinking), but it unnecessarily extended itself to action scenes, etc. I also found the 'plot points' subtitling to be a bit condescending. I wanted to say "I GET IT! I'M PAYING ATTENTION!" The script could have used a little more polish, in my opinion, as there are character flaws all over the place. A forgettable film from a mostly forgettable director.
