    The Hi-Line  (1999)

I like indie films. Being an actor myself, I like the more character driven pieces than the car chase, big explosion type films that have plagued Hollywood in recent years.

I must say, though, that even though I thoroughly enjoyed the cinematography in this film (Wally Pfister consistently works with Christopher Nolan), the story (and acting) left a little to be desired. I felt it couldn't decide if it wanted to be a road movie, a love story or a melodrama.  And because of that, it fails to live up to the standard of all three of those genres.

Having seen Rachael Leigh Cook in many sub-par films, I have to point out that this is one of her better pictures. She has a tendency to look uncomfortable in certain films, but she glided through this one with ease. Maybe too much ease. I think she could have put a little more juice into the emotional scenes, but other than that...no complaints.
