8 1/2 out of ten stars.
Lee Yeoung-ae who is a soap opera star in her native South Korea gives an outstanding performance as a young women imprisoned for a crime she did not necessarily commit.
This film shows Park Chan-Wook coming of age in his use of music (damnit where can I get a copy of that exquisite score. . . and yes, I've tried YesAsia and it is sold out, double damnit). And of his shot choice, each scenes seems to meld into the next without a blink of this viewer's eye.
The Region Three DVD I rented though was a bit muddy in the darker scenes but it is a slight quibble. The film along with a number of others recently seems to be the start of an avalanche of revenge genre films coming out of South Korea (I wonder what that says!)
That said, great overall, though you may be leaving the room during the penultimate scene, where (SPOILER) each of the parents take their revenge on the real murderer.
