Adventures in Stupidity
Under discussion:
The Hitcher
(2007)
I'm not familiar with the original "Hitcher," but it had to be better than this. At least it would have the advantage of eighties horror camp, whereas this sorry film is just one bad scene after another.
The protagonists seem like good folks, but man are they dumb. Awful one-liners are spouted all over the place; lines like "He's never going to stop, is he?" and (my personal favorite) "Here in the great state of New Mexico, we have the Death Penalty." This glittering quip was not uttered by either Sophia Bush or Zacharay Knighton, but by Neal McDonough, although this doesn't make it any less idiotic.
Probably the only saving grace of the movie for me was Sean Bean, who was perfectly cast. In fact, the sole reason I went to see this movie was because he was playing John Ryder. The guy just eminates creepy psychoticness. And that scene where he blew up the helicopter? Freakin' brilliant. But, I wouldn't expect anything less from Bean. He's saved many a crappy movie from utter destruction (see "Flightplan"). I just wish he'd put his talents to better use by being in a movie that was actually good.
