    The Hunger  (1983)

Maybe it's because I've seen this movie about a billion times, but I must confess that I do sometimes get bored during parts of this film, but I must always watch the beginning at least through Bauhaus' nightclub performance and check back in for Susan Sarandon's hot *** scene. It is a classic and worthy of full viewing many times, but I just happened to go see it as a midnight movie almost every weekend for several months because a favorite movie house was closing down, so I simply overdid it.

  • War is over if you want it...

Of the innumerable great quotes that can be attributed to John Lennon (yes, my favorite Beatle), this has always been my favorite; it's also the slogan for this movie. I am fortunate enough to get to go to a fair amount of free movie previews and I actually got a free t-shirt promoting this movie, which has that very quote on the front. The movie is very timely in the way that it shows how far a paranoic, war-mongering government will go to justify their actions and also how far they will go to demonize anyone who dares to speak out against them. That said, I'll shut up - just see this film...

  • Good for a free screening

Overall, this movie is at least worthy of a rental or matinee. There are several laugh out loud moments, but the film is fairly predictable and the racial stereotypes were a bit much. Worst of all, not enough David Cross!
