They will be Bored

In rushing to fill in the holes before Oscar night, we spent the afternoon driving 30 miles to watch Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood We sat for over 158 minutes in a darkened theater with a assorted lot of strangers sharing an experience not unlike scarping the enamel off one's teeth with a butter knife. We endured over 9,480 seconds of over-the-top acting, missed cinematic opportunities and pacing that would come in second to grass growing. Although I have enjoyed Mr. Lewis' acting abilities in the past, he is presented here as a John Houston cartoon character surrounded by an army of wooden cutouts. Director Paul Thomas Anderson seems to have given birth to a child only its father should love. Read all the ROTTEN TOMATOES comments you want, but in the end it should have been titled: "They Will Be Bored". If you need to watch an amazing western this year, rent The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

we can't believe how much this SUCKED

never have we hoped for so much and received so little. one of the most promising trailers we had seen in years was in ruins after the first three minutes of this garbage. few films have earned their way into out hearts to the tune of our collective feet walking away in disgust. this tops them all. we endured only 45 painful minutes before our eyes and hears began to bleed with disdain. in my wildest dreams did we ever think that the woman who gave us TITUS would have the ability to make us want to vomit so much so quickly. the disappointment we felt was so great that we drove home to watch PLANET TERROR as all our expectations were abandoned. (gasp) PLEASE watch the trailer. watch it again and again. relish the thought that THIS COULD BE a good film. imagine it and walk away.

gondry or kaufman?

all kaufman....in light of gondry's new film is is obvious that gondry has a long way to go and that the magic of this film is all charlie kaufman...it is magical and beautiful. on our top 25 of all times.this is magic realism at it's best. fantastic!!!

we are not into anime...spirited away, my neighbor totoro, princess mononoke are just a handful of anime that we would ever want to watch. however, tekkonkinkreet is such an experience to behold that we can't say or write enough good things about it. great characters that do not evolve into cliche...great soundtrack...great animation...a great magic realism storyline...if you are shy about viewing anime we can only say-SEE IT...a real treat and feast for the ears, eyes and mind...

Brilliant film making from a brilliant filmmaker who was way WAY ahead of her time....a must see for any film buff...seek it out...imagine what might have been if the zombies would not have taken her away...

death and dying

one of the single most important films about death and dying and letting go that has ever been made....a classic and in our top 25 of all times. if you don't shed a tear of two then you have never experienced love. this is a must see for all...the performance by juliet stevenson is unforgettable...and the ending made us weep like babies...if you are in need of a good sobbing cry, then look no further...

few films throw magic realism up into the air and let it scatter into the breeze as much as this one. complex and beautiful...mean and spiritual...harsh and delicate...nothing compares to the story of Harry Joy...a must see...a modern masterpiece...
