How unfortunate

Under discussion:

Spider-Man 3  (2007)

What a depressing movie. Just really bad. Spider-Man was so good for the first two (especially the second). Why some of the decisions that were made for this movie were allowed to fly is beyond me. The 2 dance sequences, the completely dopey acting that is strangely poor compared to the previous flicks.

If you want to know how good Spider-Man can be, I urge you to read Spider-Man: Reign by Kaare Andrews and the whole run of Amazing Spider-Man by J. Michael Strasynski. The current Amazing stuff starting with 539 is incredible and puts this movie to shame.

 Sam Raimi... WHY?!?!?!?

Sweet Jesus this movie was wretched.

I tend to just groan and curse when asked about it so I'm glad you were able to better articulate your disappointment.

I have yet to see Spider-Man 3, but I'm really not expecting much, mainly because I was already disappointed with the first two. I agree with you though, Spider-Man does have so, so much potential. While I love Sam Raimi and the Evil Dead series, I'm afraid that he just wasn't right for the Spider-Man franchise.

I suppose that a good example of a great comic book franchise that really wasn't much of a film series in the beginning, but now has taken off is Batman. While I enjoyed the original Batman and Batman Returns, the rest of the series was abysmal until recently when Christopher Nolan took over. I think it takes the right director and writer to fully take advantage of a great comic book franchise.

So I guess the bigger question is who would have done a better job with the series?
