Caught this one on TCM the other night (well, most of it, but I'd seen it before many years ago). It was much better than I remembered it, a lot of good Neil Simon dialog, and Richard Dreyfuss' Richard III is absolutely hilarious. The kid, as played by Quinn Cummings is really cute and appealling. Marsha Mason, though - boy did Neil Simon have a knack for writing annoying female characters (see also
Barefoot in the Park, which I also recently saw), she spends the entire movie whining and complaining and its a wonder why Richard Dreyfuss falls for this neurotic mess. The ending is particularly disappointing, and I felt myself hoping the Richard Dreyfuss character would just leave for the west coast and never come back.
