Review: I have to admit that I haven’t seen any of the previous superman films, but I can say that I was moderately impressed with this one. The story was typical superhero stuff, and all of superman’s powers were on display and more or less showcased well. Special effects weren’t overdone in my opinion. The action sequences were executed well and added to the story, but what downgraded the film for me was some of the performances. Brandon Routh was a little boyish and nerdy to be the ideal Superman and just didn’t convince me. I think they were more concerned with casting the all-american pretty boy than a man’s man, but that’s open for interpretation. I like Kevin Spacey, but I felt he didn’t live up to his potential as Lex Luthor. Aside from that, albeit a tad longer than was perhaps necessary, Superman Returns is well worth a viewing.
