Your Nachos Will Libre When Seeing This One

Under discussion:

Nacho Libre  (2006)
There are times when I begin to think we, as Americans are just a stupid as the rest of the world say we are. Those times involve election years, any reality television show, and Jered Hess movies. I HATED Napoleon Dynamite and will still do so to my dying day. And that movie was just stupid. Nacho Libre isn't just stupid, but it's ugly and vicious.

Nacho (Jack Black) is a cook for a Mexican mission where everyone talks in a Mexican-stilted English ("What ees theees!"), and sometimes talks in Spanish when they feel like it. The food is so bad that toast is a delicacy. And priests hit on novices at will. But Nacho has the dream of becoming a Luchador wrestler (I think only because that means he can wear stretchy pants and a mask). In a street thief, he finds a partner, and the two of them start hitting the canvas. But they're so bad, audiences like seeing them get pummeled to a pulp. But they paid for their time. The film builds up to a fight with the best wrestler in the ring, and fight they shall. But at that point, I just didn't care. If I had it my way, I would have burned the print an hour into the film.

The simple matter of fact is this...stereotypes are NOT funny. Seeing poor people putting on big-toothed grins while eating corn is NOT FUNNY...is in fact almost racist (remember those drawings of black people and watermelon? It's BACK!). What's the most disturbing about this movie is that it's being targeted to kids and is under the Nickelodeon Movies banner. I'd be more prone to let my kids see The Omen before seeing this piece of filth.

The dread I had after Jered Hess's Napoleon is now a full fear that he'll be given another movie to direct. I fear that people will actually his next monstrosity and that it will confirm that Americans are dumber than they appear.

All in all, I don't want to talk any more about this film than I have, giving it merit it doesn't deserve. But please, trust me on this one: For the love of America, STAY AWAY from this film!
