ellex42 Bloghttp://www.spout.com/blogs/ellex42/default.aspxen-USSpout RSSWell worth watching...several times!http://www.spout.com/blogs/ellex42/archive/2007/11/19/21810.aspxTue, 20 Nov 2007 01:48:22 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:21810ellex420http://www.spout.com/blogs/ellex42/comments/21810.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/ellex42/commentrss.aspx?PostID=21810<p>A film has to be pretty special for me to happily watch it more than once.&nbsp; I&#39;ve watched &quot;A Dog&#39;s Breakfast&quot; twice now, and look forward to many more viewings.</p><p>David Hewlett claims this is &quot;an old-fashioned type of comedy&quot;, and he&#39;s absolutely right.&nbsp; This film has a kind of innocence and&nbsp;real humor&nbsp;that&#39;s seldom seen these days, and which is very refreshing.&nbsp; For anyone who is tired of &#39;funny&#39; movies that descend to the crass, the profane, and the mean to get their laughs, this movie will make you remember what it&#39;s like to laugh because something is honestly funny.&nbsp; The blend of different types of comedy also keep this film fresh with equal amounts of slapstick and wit.</p><p>Mars the dog, in his film debut,&nbsp;steals every scene he&#39;s in effortlessly even though David&nbsp;Hewlett bends over backwards (literally, at times) to make this film funny and entertaining.&nbsp; He&#39;s one of the very few actors I can watch embarrass himself without making me feel embarrassed for him.&nbsp; His character, Patrick, shows definite signs of the influence of Hewlett&#39;s regular job as McKay on Stargate:Atlantis while remaining a unique person.&nbsp; </p><p>David&#39;s&nbsp;real-life sister, Kate, is marvelous as his sister in the film - the brother-sister dynamic has never been more realistically portrayed.&nbsp; And former Atlantis co-star Paul McGillion shows an unexpected talent for comedy himself (not to mention cross-dressing).&nbsp; Cameos by other Stargate stars round out a film that was obviously a labor of love.&nbsp;</p><p>Lest you read the plot synopsis and think there are no surprises left to be had,&nbsp;let me tell you that this film is full of unexpected twists and turns.&nbsp; Things are not quite what they seem!&nbsp; But at the same time, you won&#39;t have to bust your brain to figure out the plot.</p><p>Think you can get away with just downloading the film off the net?&nbsp; Think again.&nbsp; The extras on the DVD are must-haves, particularly for Hewlett fans.&nbsp; For a pleasant afternoon or evening that will leave you with a big smile on your face, watch &quot;A Dog&#39;s Breakfast&quot;.</p>
