    Prom Night  (1980)

With Halloween in the late 70's the slasher genre was born, and since then there have been few really good slasher film's well this is one of them. The production is obviously low budget but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the final film in fact for me it actually added to the cult feel the film really needs. Technically there is nothing really interesting going on the camera pretty much just takes the same angles over and over again but the mood and tone is very creepy and has a definite 70's feel to it (the theme of the prom is disco). Jamie Lee Curtis comes on the coat tails of Halloween and was obviously type cast which is maybe one reason she gave such a solid performance, all of the other cast did a great job for the purpose of the film. Overall a worthy addition to the indie world and a great harmless scare!!

  • Why Oh Why?

I am a big comic book reader and a devoted fan to most of the film adaptations that have come along, and this past summer was particularly filled with them. With films like Iron Man and The Dark Knight dominating the box office it seems that the Hulk got left in the dust (for the second time). Ang Lee's version was a disaster and the question I was asking through the entire movie was why we even needed another Hulk movie. It isn't a sequel to the Lee version and it basically just retells the origin story. Ang's version didn't have enough action and this one had to much, and talk about bad CGI the hulk looked like a man in a suit. The only redeeming thing about the film was the first half hour or so which was by far the most interesting thing in the film. The performances are wasted because of the material, I have learned because of The Dark Knight that just because it is a superhero movie doesn't mean the acting has to be bad. All I can really say is that if you are looking for an awesome superhero flick skip the hulk and rent Iron Man, or wait for The Dark Knight to come to DVD. Oh and P.S. I was disapointed in Ed's performance.

    American Pie 2  (2001)

I found American Pie to be a sweet and nostalgic look at adolescence and relationships that develop throughout those years. American Pie 2 is pretty much the same recipe add some new characters and a cabin by the lake. Jim and his friends have all finished their first year of college and are experiencing their first summer at home. The Summer starts off slow and then Kevin (Thomas Ian NIcholas) gets an idea from his brother to rent a cabin by lake Michigan. At the end of the summer they plan to throw a huge party that everyone will remember. The jokes are as funny as they where in the first one, the characters are just as likable and in the case of Stifler unlikable as they where in the first one so if you where a fan of the first one you will most likely like the sequel but it doesn't really give any thing new to the formula worked in the first film. Oh well I guess the important thing is that I enjoyed it!!

    American Pie  (2001)

American Pie launched the new generation of teen sex comedies. The only differences between American Pie and oh lets say National Lampoon's Animal House is the time they are set in ( oh yeah and that the cast actually look like they could be in high school). The comedy in this film is actually just part of a bigger story and the one reason it works is because the audience likes and can identify with the characters. Jason Biggs plays Jim a goofy but likable high school senior that makes a pact with his three friends (played by Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and Chris Klein) to loose their virginity by graduation. The film then makes it clear that our heroes are only going to sucseed is if their female friends let them. All of the women in this film instead of being portrayed as mere sex objects (like in the film mentioned above) are actually portrayed as being smart and very comfortable with their sexuality. All in all I would recommend that anyone between the ages of 17 to 25 see this film.

  • Indy Is Back!!

This film has been very controversial since it's memorial day release. I like a lot of other people had high expectations and fortunatley mine where met!! This is exactly what Indiana Jones is supposed to be and Steven, George, and Harrison are back in fine form. I saw this in a packed theatre and the crowd was reacting well to what was going on on screen. After waiting nineteen years for indy to come back to the big screen there couldn't have been better. So i know that viewers are going to have different opinions about the fourth installment of the series but I thought that it was faithful to the spirit of the other three films and for die hard Indy fans will be just what they are looking for.

  • Half Crime Thriller Half Gruesome Horror

This film threw me for a loop when I first saw it. Basically it advertises it's self as a horror film but there is no horror for the first half of the film. The first half of the story revolves around two brothers Richard and Seth Geko trying to get across the border and away from the law. In order to do that they have to kidnapp Harvey Keitel and his family so they can use their motor home. Once they get across the border that is when the horror starts. The characters are very watchable and the tension is very well built up, the dialouge is penned by the master Quentin Tarantino and the film is lensed by Robert Rodriguez. The performances are above average and George Clooney makes a great bad ass. It is worth a viewing!!
