    Saw  (2004)

When I first started watching this film I was expecting just a splatter fest full of blood and guts. What I got was a well written well acted and extremely intense and powerful thriller. There was plenty of blood and gore but the violence in my opinion was never gratuitous. From the beginning I felt for the two characters that where trapped by the jigsaw killer and was truly invested in their stories. This movie isn't going to be for everyone, like I have stated in other reviews I am an avid horror fan and can handle the blood and gore but for viewers that have a weak stomach or that get disturbed easy you should probably stay away for everyone else I would definiltey recommend that you see this great addition to the horror genre. I haven't seen the sequels yet so I can't say anything about them but I was very entertained by this.

I am an avid horror fan and when I heard about this sequel I was very excited. Even all of the negativity surrounding it couldn't keep me away, well I wish it would have been enough to keep me from wasting my time with this flick. I hated it right off the bat and the only thing that kept me watching it was the naive thought that oh it can only get better. I was so wrong, the dialouge was cheesy to the point of being laughable none of the performances where believable and the vampires weren't cool they weren't romantic they where assholes. I didn't feel bad when any of them got staked. In the first one the vampire clan was cool and when any of them got staked I actually felt for them but in this one I cheered. I don't remember any of the names of the actors/ actresses that participated  in this drivle and it doesn't matter. I will only say it once stay away from this film as if your life depended on it because it may very well.

    Cold Mountain  (2003)

When I saw this in the theatre I was a little underwhelmed by it. I mean this is by the guy that did The English Patient which is one of my favorite films so I was really psyched about it. Maybe I had to high of an expectation because in the theatre this film fell flat. Fast forward to now and I realize how wrong my first impression was this is truly a haunting piece of visual narrative. The cast with the exception of Rene Zellweger was take it or leave it but the direction the visuals and the score where enough to make me change my tune. I haven't read the book and now I want to. I would say definiley put this on your Netflix cue and watch it as soon as you can.

  • The thrills were okay but it was a little to Long

    Inside Man  (2006)

With movies like Malcolm X, Do the right Thing, Jungle Fever, and even to a little extent with The 25th Hour Spike lee films have always dealt with the issue of race and what it means to get along or to not get along as a society. In Inside Man he goes much more main stream and gives us a straight forward heist thriller. What kind of disapointed me about this film is that as much as I love Spike Lee and some of his earlier films he doesn't really bring anything new to the heist genre. My point being that anybody could have directed this and got the same film. The performances where very good and I especially liked Clive Owen his face is covered up for most of the film but he his still unpredictable and truly terrifying as the main villain. The film was entertaining and I would suggest seeing it because I do think it is worth the price of a rental but if you are looking for a trade mark Spike Lee joint you will not find it here.

  • A Masterpiece of Cinema

I was utterly blown away by this film. The scope is small and the story may at first seem simple but there is so much more to the film. I thought Cronenberg's direction was beautiful and all of the performances where exceptional especially Mortensen's. This film asks the question can we truly leave our pasts behind or are there some things that we as individuals will never be free from and I think that it is looked at in a very compelling and disturbing way. David Cronenberg is one of my favorite film makers and I think A History of Violence has been his best film so far!!

  • kick ass way to start off the summer

    Iron Man  (2008)

I saw this in the theatre as a double feature with Indy 4, and I liked it more than Indy! From the opening scene I was captivated by the character Tony Stark and Robert Downey Jr's performance. I also thought the chemistry with him and Gwenyth Paltrow was excellent. As far as Jon Favreua's direction I liked the fact that the action was gritty and realistic but still had the comic book movie feel to it I just thought it was done really well. Overall I would definitley say see this film I thought it was a great way to start the summer and look forward to the DVD which will definitley on my christmas list.
