De Angelis is at it again with this mid-eighties prison break film! What sets this one apart from all the rest is its Western-styled themes as Ethan (son of John) Wayne gets set up on false horse rustling charges by ranch owner Ernest Borgnine. Sentenced to prison, Wayne meets psycho warden Henry Silva who finds pleasure in watching his prisoners race back from work detail while being chased by his rabid guard dogs! Wayne takes this as an opportunity to get himself into shape in order to escape and run across the Arizona desert! Unfortunately, once he gets back into town, Sheriff Bo Svenson catches him and sends him back! The second time appears to be the charm as Wayne steals a bus and sets out to prove his innocence with the help of Borgnine, who has a sudden change of heart, and a fellow inmate out on parole. Now it’s a showdown between Silva and Wayne! Francesco De Masi provides an excellent Italian Western style score and De Angelis' eye-of-the-desert scenery really supplies an excellent backdrop to suit the son of The Duke! Forget all those cut (by a full 8 minutes!) and fullscreen domestic prints. Digital Conquest now carries it uncut & widescreen!
