Don’t let the date put you off of this ultra-rare giallo which is massively hard to come by… Especially uncut and in English! Lizzani is a fine director and this is yet another work of which he can be proud. Franca and her husband, Antonio, have advertised in a local paper that they are trying to sell a large and valuable carpet, a wedding gift from Franca’s mother and stepfather. While Antonio is out handling some business, the first responder to the add arrives to have a look at the goods. Franca is soon trapped in an inescapable nightmare as this mad stranger begins to terrorize her both physically and psychologically! Franca’s tormentor claims to have murdered his wife on that very same rug years earlier and comes dangerously close to reliving the moment again in the present! Lots of very intense and uncomfortable scenes lead to a violent and bloody confrontation with the mysterious stranger! Needless to say, this is nowhere near the end! This little known yet excellent Italian thriller is very engaging, it contains many shocking surprises, a soundtrack by maestro Stelvio Cipriani, and the prerequisite nudity and violence! A very highly recommended film and if you are a gialli enthusiast then you’ll definitely not want to miss this claustrophobic classic! It was released a long time ago on domestic VHS and was missing a couple minutes of footage.
