Superb supernatural thriller that pits Kirk Douglas against evil forces conspiring to bring about the apocalypse. Douglas is Robert Caine, a powerful man who is close to his dream of building a thermonuclear power plant in the Middle East. There are many vehemently opposed to this plan because of the risk of placing the ‘heat of the sun’ in a man-made container on Earth. As it turns out, Caine has been a pawn in a dark game intended to shift the balance of power and bring about the holocaust in order to destroy all of mankind. Angel, Caine’s son, is actually the antichrist and will make sure that nobody interferes with the building of the plant. These acts of prevention lead to some severe and memorable gory set pieces in the UNCUT version; you won’t want to miss that helicopter blade to the head scene! The unrelentingly beautiful Ms. Belli portrays Caine’s love interest after the violent death of his wife, but is that all she is? Rain of Fire is an accomplished and sorely neglected movie featuring a tense score from Ennio Morricone and smaller performances from the likes of Adolfo Celli and others. Alberto De Martino demonstrates his tremendous talents yet again.
