    Rituals  (1978)

UNCUT!!! One of the most sought after and requested genre movies from the 70's now finally complete for fans everywhere! A great cast, excellent writing, wonderfully drawn characters, incredible direction and frightening atmosphere are even better than before with tons of extra footage! More gore! More plot! More violence! It's all here for your personal enjoyment! For those that have never seen this or have been stuck with the very truncated version, Rituals is about a group of five doctors who take a camping trip into the deep woods only to be hunted by a madman. Sounds simple enough, but what plays out is a very in-depth tale of retribution, revenge and interpersonal insight. These five men turn on each other, stop trusting their longtime friends and look into themselves during a serious crisis as one by one they are picked off and tormented by a maniac and the elements of their surroundings! Forget Deliverance (sited as one of the best of the backwoods and hillbilly cinematic terrors), Rituals beats that one on every level! Cinematically and horrifyingly in your face, Rituals boasts verite style camera work and outstanding performances that make this stand out as one of the most underrated classics of its time.

    Green Inferno  (1987)

First things first… Many have called this a cannibal film. Well, there is no cannibalism, there are no cannibals, and there are no such references in the entire length of the movie. Generalized comparisons to that genre hold no water either. As an example, early in the proceedings our heroes are distracted from their goals by an animal in trouble and go out of their way to save its life! The worst you’ll endure is the non-gratuitous death of a boar and a bunch of monkey’s that are manhandled while being captured alive so they can be donated to a center that uses its proceeds to help those in need! The central plot involves a lost professor and the obsessive reporter who believes he is still alive somewhere in the Amazon. With the help of an aspiring anthropologist, a pilot, an all-purpose water-skiing tough guy, and even the occasional completely mad loner, our endlessly driven heroine sets out to locate and/or save the missing researcher. Along the way they encounter all manner of nasty individuals; pirates that drug and box up native children for shipping to other countries so their organs can be sold (!), treasure hunting bandits whose greed knows no limits, and vengeful natives who don’t appreciate their monkey’s being stolen! Those treasure hunters believe our heroes can lead them to tremendous riches and as a method of torture (to get information) break out an incredibly large snake to castrate one of the leads with. This movie is filled with such set pieces (The flesh-eating fish is crawling into his what?!) and, although not often over-the-top, there is a little gore (F/X courtesy of Paolo Ricci) and plenty of violence on display. In the end, Green Inferno is a rousing and competent adventure featuring a very, very, cool soundtrack by Maurizio Dami! Entertaining and even a little surprising (especially considering the previous work of the semi-infamous director).

Giuliano Gemma hams it up as naive Sonny Abernathy, a down on his luck average Joe who dreams of becoming a big time gangster and ruling New York city. He gets his chance when he lifts some luggage at a train station and discovers that it belongs to a real thug. Taking the guns, money and flashy clothes that are found inside, he heads to New York, more specifically Mulberry Street, to start a protection racket. Not all goes as planned in this Italian comedy that spoofs prohibition crime films. First there's this unseen crime boss named Rocky who won't budge, his thugs follow Sonny wherever he goes which leads to numerous running gags. Then there is Father O'Flanagan, a huge Irish Priest who teaches boxing and gives Sonny a very hard time. If that isn't bad enough for poor Sonny, he then falls for the Catholic's sister, the beautiful Laura Becherelli as "Virginia, a Virgo like a Virgin”. The cinematography and sets are top notch while the humor ranges from mugging for the camera to pure Italian style slapstick. Nothing is sacred, from ethnic backgrounds to Shakespeare, but it’s all innocent fun with long bouts of fist fighting and gunfire where the only true victims are glass plane windows (lots of them!). Throw in two butch females and a gay pro-wrestler and you know just what kind of movie you are in store for! Pure zany entertainment… Italian style!  A rare Italian Crime Comedy!

  • THE BLUE-EYED BANDIT - Franco Nero Italian Crime Classic!

Nero is fantastic in this exceptional Italian crime/heist thriller as a man drowning in his own desperation and mediocrity. Now, though, now he has a plan. He shows up at his job every day as an older, semi-crippled man with dark eyes and a fairly quiet disposition. Eventually, he finds an opportunity to rob the company of a tremendous amount of money and arranges it so that his glasses slip off so all the witnesses can see his blue eyes! It’s a brilliant plan that seems to go off without a hitch and there is even a low-key escape to Panama planned for the near future. However, people see things… start to notice things and suspicions arise. Eventually these circumstances lead to an escalation of violence, tension and no small amount of sneaky backstabbing! This man’s problems have only just begun! An outstanding score provided by Ennio Morricone certainly doesn’t hurt either!

  • IL MAMMASANTISSIMA aka THE NEW GODFATHERS Italian Crime Uncut!

When a crime lord attempts to smuggle a huge amount of heroin through Italy and into America, a sympathetic International customs officer must turn to Don Francesco for help. Francesco is a man of honor, connected, and is in charge of most of the smuggling operations that bring illegal cigarettes into Naples. Neither of them wants the drugs to pass through the city to begin with, but things take a serious turn when a botched attempt at murder leaves a young child near death. Now, an unstoppable revenge is the only goal of The New Godfathers! Look for Edmund Purdom and Lorraine De Selle (who provides some of the nudity) in smaller roles. Fantastic car chases and plenty of violence highlight this hidden gem of an Italian crime film.

    Sensi  (1986)

Lavia portrays a man with a lot of secrets and a lot of past chasing close behind him. He makes his living by ending the lives of others; he is a professional killer. The ‘organization’ that employs him has expressed through their actions, very clearly I might add, that they would like to see Lavia dead. He goes on the run and hides out at his girlfriend’s high profile brothel. During his stay there he meets, and becomes increasingly obsessed with, a part-time whore named Victoria who has some secrets of her own! This is an erotic and intense giallo with lots of nudity, some splattery murders and an exceptionally moody score by Fabio Frizzi! Dardano Sacchetti was among the four writers who helped to create Evil Senses!
