  • NOSFERATU IN VENICE

Klaus Kinski returns in this semi-sequel to Werner Herzog's 1979 Nosferatu! This time around, the prince of darkness is summoned 200 years later by the heir of his true love during a séance. Leaving nothing in his wake, he journeys homebound to Venice in order to either reunite with the exotically beautiful Barbara De Rossi or yearn for death in utter turmoil within his own curse as he reflects; "Time has no meaning in a life that never ends." A great cast including Christopher Plummer in the Van Helsing role as Professor Paris Catalano and the hypocritical religious priest Don Alvise played superbly by Donald Pleasance. Despite the original director Mario Caiano being fired and replaced by producer Augusto Caminito (with directorial help from Luigi Cozzi, Maurizio Lucidi and Klaus Kinski) there is a great cast and some incredibly atmospheric cinematography by Tonino Nardi. Also, there is a rousing soundtrack by Luigi Ceccarelli contributing to one of the better European vampire films from the 80's! Not to mention the erotically charged (and frequently nude) beauty of both Barbara De Rossi and Anne Knecht! Make sure and see it uncut and widescreen!

    Panic  (1976)

    PANIC
    Also Known As
    BAKTERION
    I VIVI INVIDIERANNO I MORTI
Directed by Tonino Ricci in 1976
Starring David Warbeck and Janet Agren

When a biologist becomes infected by a virus that mutates him into a pulsating monster with an insatiable craving for human blood it falls to David Warbeck and the local police to stop him. If they can’t, the military has already conceived a plan to destroy the entire city and make it look like an unfortunate accident. They would rather sacrifice those lives than see a virus of such destructive power spread throughout the world. The citizenry becomes violent, the monster becomes hungry, and time is running out for everybody! The beautiful Janet Agren portrays the biologists assistant who frantically races against the clock to find an antidote. For those who are familiar with the truncated domestic release, Digital Conquest's version will be a real surprise as it contains plenty of gore and nudity completely removed from other available prints!

  • SPIDER LABYRINTH - Excellent Italian Horror!

    SPIDER LABYRINTH
    Also Known As
    IL NIDODEL RAGNO
Directed by Gianfranco Giagni in 1988 and starring Roland Wybenga, Paola Rinaldi, Stephane Audran and William Berger.

Professor Alan Whitmore is sent to Budapest to find out why a colleague working on an important worldwide research project has made himself so scarce. The project involves translating and understanding writing that is linked to an ancient religion soon found to be much less dead than anyone suspected. The followers know what the writing contains, the names of their deities, and there are no measures too ghastly to protect this secret. The world will know soon enough… Here is an absolutely stunning supernatural horror film that is filled with dark, color-accented, atmosphere. No surprise that this has been compared to Dario Argento’s work on a number of occasions. Lots of violent intensity and Sergio Stivaletti’s F/X work is beyond amazing! Make sure and see it Widescreen and uncut!

  • SO SWEET SO DEAD - One of the most underrated Gialli!

    The Slasher  (1974)

    SO SWEET, SO DEAD
    Also Known As
RIVELAZIONI DI UN MANIACO SESSUALE AL CAPO DELLA SQUADRA MOBILE
REVELATIONS OF A SEX MANIAC TO THE HEAD OF THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DIVISION
    THE SLASHER
Directed by Roberto Montero in 1972 and Starring Farley Granger, Sylva Koscina, Krista Nell, Femi Benussi, Luciano Rossi, Nieves Navarro (credited as Susan Scott), Christea Avram (credited as Chris Avram), Silvano Tranquilli and Annabella Incontrera

As amazing a cast as that is it’s important to point out that there are even more recognizable faces throughout. More than we had room to list! Some consider this the ultimate giallo; the pinnacle of the genre that achieves its perfection with calculated finesse and effortless perfection beyond a fault. Others consider it reprehensible; cynical trash that’s nihilistic and cruel with no redeeming values whatsoever. Around here we tend to lean decidedly toward the former rather than the latter. A murderer has taken up the position of moral redeemer and begins to violently murder the unfaithful wives of the local jet set leaving behind only bloody bodies and photographs of the victims caught in the throes of adulterous passion. Inspector Capuana is the man in charge of the investigation. As the murders continue and the frustration of not being able to ‘step on too many toes’ builds inside, Capuana finds himself obsessed with the details of the case. There is relentless tension and no lack of suspenseful thrills all designed to drive you effortlessly towards the absolutely fantastic climax that’s awash in powerful and shocking revelation. So Sweet, So Dead is, as far as we’re concerned, best thought of as must-see viewing for gialli fans! An exceptional movie showcasing everything that is great about the giallo. The shadow-like stranger clinging to the darkness until it’s time to strike, the flashing of the blade, the impressive and stylish murders, the frequent nudity, the dreamlike and hypnotic soundtrack (courtesy of Giorgio Gaslini), the abundant atmosphere, the serpentine turns of the final moments … and on and on and on! We can think of not a single negative thing to say about this classic! So Sweet, So Dead comes with my highest of recommendations!

  • BELLS aka MURDER BY PHONE Uncut (U.S. Version cut by 15 Minutes!)

    Murder by Phone  (1982)

There is a madman loose in the city that has the power to destroy anyone at anytime because he is using the ultimate weapon against his victims… the telephone! Chamberlain is Professor Nat Bridger; a man who finds himself unwittingly caught at the center of a recent string of violent murders committed by a killer who uses science to accomplish his evil goals. Soon Bridger isn’t just an outsider looking in, now he has become the next target! This amazingly competent and paranoid suspense film is top-shelf entertainment all the way around! An excellent Canadian thriller that is also a commentary on big business and our ever-growing dependency on the technology that surrounds us more and more each day. First rate writing, directing, cinematography, acting and music all come together perfectly in this unfairly neglected edge of your seat thrill ride from the director of such classics as Orca and Logan’s Run! Why has Bells been over-looked? This is probably due to the fact that when released in America as Murder By Phone several minutes were cut out of it… about 15 in fact!

    Alien Warning  (1980)

High caliber acting talent abounds in this gory sci-fi horror classic that tells the tale of what happens when an alien trophy hunter arrives on Earth to stalk humans as prey! It falls to a young couple whose friends were murdered to convince the people of a nearby small town that an intergalactic danger is threatening them all! As it turns out, there are two men who believe the story. One is a veteran who is convinced the aliens were always nearby waiting for their chance to strike and the other is himself a proud and vengeful hunter who has had a run in with this extraterrestrial being and its vicious flesh tearing parasites before! This is an excellent film with fantastic cinematography, special F/X and atmosphere.
