I had wanted to see this movie just from the trailers alone.
I finally found it at Walmart about a month or so ago,and bought it for $19.99.
I love this movie so much, I watch it every day.
The story line is very well done, and easy to follow.
The photography is beautifully done. You get a chance to see a country not many U.S. citizens get to see.
The movie is set in Bucharest,Romania which is a country steeped in history, beginning with the legend of Dracula. The original Dracula, known as Vlad the Impaler, and his castle still stands in Transylvania,Romania.
This story is about the legend of the "Lu Garue". People who can shape-shift from human form to that of a wolf. Not the typical stereo type of the werewolves, but,an actual wolf. The changes they make are so beautifully done, and there is no pain involved for the Lu Garue. It seems to have a very spiritual feel and look to it.
It is about a young girl by the name of Vivian, and her "pack". She lives with her Aunt Astrid, and was orphaned to her Aunt as a small child of around 8 or 9 when her entire family were slaughtered by Hunters in the Colorado Rockies.
In her "pack", the leader,Gabriel, played wonderfully by actor Olivier Martinez, and as the leader, he takes a new "wife" every 7 years.
His new choice is rumored to be Vivian. Only Vivian, is of a different mind, and does not agree with this tradition. Her Aunt, was one of Gabriels' "wives", and is still suffering from his departure from her life. They have a son together they call Raiff.
Raiff, is a renegade always getting into mischief.
One night, while Vivian is sitting in a historical church, she looks down to see a guy sitting just below her,and they end up meeting.
She tries to avoid him, but, inevitably, they fall in love, which is something that is forbidden in her "pack". Humans are a thing to fear, and not trust.
Their story is so beautiful, and testifies to the fact that just because you are not the same religion, race,or whatever, that does not mean, you can not be friends, and have the same things in common.
In other words, look beyond the lines of difference to get to know the person, and not judge.
I loved this movie, and bought it.
