    Rose Red  (2002)

This is the story about 19 year old woman who married a wealthy and what turned out to be unfaithful man who would leave her scarred with Veneral Disease, one deformed child, and a curse that would haunt her until she "died" and became part of the house that he had built 50 years before. It is about the team of paranormal investigators who got into the house almost 100 years after it was built to see what they can see and find death, pain, misery, maiming, and destruction for themselves and their teammates. But, it is a good mystery with lots of pseudo-historical background. It was obviously well written and the DVD has a section about how they made the movie and the horrendous special effects at the end showing the demolition of some of the house.

  • Good movie showing sadness and loneliness amidst the wealth of his small apartment.

    The Omega Man  (1971)

The world died and he is getting through one day at a time. I saw this movie several years ago. The ending where he gets a spear thrown through him by the fountain always stuck in my mind. Anthony Zerbe was great as the leader of the Zombies. He went from being a journalist to being a zombie master who was himself a zombie. I liked the part where Charleton Heston's character makes contact with some noninfected people and tries to solve their problem. When people work together to solve a common problem, you never know what they might accomplish.

  • Good action sequences, but I couldn't figure out the ending

Did they die at the end or were they dreaming? I've seen this movie two times and could never figure out the ending. For that reason, it really wasn't that good of a movie. Now, with remakes being done all the time on previous movies, I am sure that if they ever get to this one, someone will fill in the blanks and maybe add some meat to the plot line. Omega Man (Charleton Heston, you know Moses in Cecil B. Demille's 10 Commandments) movie was redone as I Am Legend with Will Smith (I haven't seen Legend, but my instructor at school Dr. Futyma said it was good).

    Dawn of the Dead  (2003)

I thought that it was a compelling story of totally unrelated people working together for a common purpose - survival. A sad note is when the pregnant woman got infected and turned into a zombie as well as her child and then her husband got killed as well. Special effects were great. The ending was totally miserable for the participants who thought that they were escaping to freedom, but instead found that the infection had spread, including to their bait box on the boat. Ugh. The part about the sporting goods store guy looking over old movies of his wife and child was especially sad considering that they probably had gotten infected and came after him, whereupon he killed them. The remorse and grief with which he was stricken must have been unbearable. Yes, this is a fiction movie just the same. I felt empathy with the characters who would normally have gone about their regular business.

  • Sad story, but nice to watch

Simon Pegg was great. It was sad what happened to his mother in the movie. His friend in the basement chained up and playing video games was pretty much where he had been before getting infected by the walking dead zombies. I've heard Simon was funny in Hot Fuzz, you know, the one where the British cop ate the twinkle and started having headaches?

  • Cursed Village

I saw this movie a few days ago. It was good. Ancient evil, cannabalistic cult, possession. It was a hoot. My favorite was the acting by people who were so convincing that it felt as if I was there. Also, people kept getting killed by a long dead evil that most of them had probably never even heard about. This along with Dagon are up there in the Spanish Horror genre involving water and general bad stuff for any town. :)
