This movie is very graphic with several scenes that bring back memories of "Fargo" and "Pulp Fiction". What makes "Shallow Grave" worthwhile is the way in which the roommates' characters are being fleshed out. Specifically, by focusing on the mental deterioration of one of the roommates, the directors did a good job in creating an atmosphere where the viewer increasingly feels uneasy. The movie has a tragic outcome but is ultimately satisfying to the viewer.
In summary, I am not a fan of movies that display so much graphic violence, which explains my three-star rating for "Shallow Grave". I did, however, enjoy the artsy look and feel of this movie, as well as the revelation in the end!
