I actually read the book!.(probably back in the days of "holiday warehouse jobs",i also read quite a few James Herbert's at the time)...
The movie is pretty enjoyable..the main character gets to look more and more like Dave Vanian (wasted ,goth obsessed dracula lookalike singer from u.k punk band "the Damned" ) as he becomes more possesed or whatever..and it's worth a watch if only to marvel at the way they apparently smash up the same car over and over ..( Keanu type voice) I think i worked out that the way they make it look like the car is "regenerating"(?)*, is that they smashed it up...then played the film backwards...
