    Children of Men  (2006)

This reminded me of a seventies T.V series ,like 'Doomwatch' or 'the Survivors' ..terrible 'dystopian future'..a journey has to be made,
the old hippy in the woods helps out on the way, anarchy abounds...amazing action sequences..Clive Owen carries it,and doesnt even need an American accent!

I hear the director is doing the next "Bond"...

  • Faecal Attraction.

    The Aristocrats  (2005)

A guilty pleasure..the 'joke' in question is just NOT funny .The various 'tellings' are hilarious ,self-indulgent and revealing, inventive ,and wickedly, undeniably funny...this doc' is set to be a cult classic
If you are a 'Larry Sanders Show' and now 'Daily Show' fan , you will know most of the faces ..

Most interesting is the instigation of the idea for the film. The "too soon" for 9/11 joke telling at Hugh Hefner's "roast" (?)..that turned into the "surefire" airing of the scatalogical classic!..No shit!

There Are some big names mining a very narrow seam here...you'll probably only watch it once, then again with the commentary on...

Takes "toilet humour" to new hieghts and depths...

    Best in Show  (2000)

    A Mighty Wind  (2003)

'Waiting for Guffman'... the Chris Guest film that i had unaccountably missed seeing up to now , unaccountably, because i AM one of those people who can quote, endlessly from 'This Is Spinal Tap'.. and , of course i love 'Best in Show' and
'A Mighty Wind'... so it's a must for Guest fans...members of the variable
ensemble are here ..Catherine O'hara, Eugene Levy, Parker Posey ,Fred Willard.

.Apart from the beautifully observed , totally 'camped out' Corky,(Guest)...highlight,for me is Parker Posey in pure 'White Trash' gum-chewin mode, with her innapropriately sexy audition,of 'Teachers Pet'...seemingly quite happy , whatever happens!!...
     "Waiting for Guffman"... .hurrah!!!

  • Yada Yada Yada Dystopia

    Aeon Flux  (2005)

It's the future , you know when everyone is dead from the virus that swept the Earth, with only the fourth generation of clones still searching for a cure, headed by some ,megla -maniac...and here she comes, the highly trained 'uberbabe' in specially designed catsuit to assassinate the guy , but , of course, it turns out that she used to.....oh whats the point ..another 'graphic novel' ,dystopian nightmare futurescape, martial arts
yada yada yada how many more of these are there?..turn on the commentaries and maybe salvage some entertainment value...how they found the locations and designed the costumes is more interesting than the movie...

    Syriana  (2005)

Within the first few scenes ,you may well be saying ,"yes yes i geddit".
..under cover cia agents ,covert selling of arms ,big business and arms dealing all mixed up with possible collusion of Governments. i fell asleep ..we know that all this sort of thing goes on ..why not make a proper documentary?...instead we get something that could have worked better as a fast -paced T.V show , or mini series like "24"or whatever ,a sort of "faction". I recommend the brilliant work of  Adam Curtis.."the Power Of Nightmares" and "the Trap",both available online.

  • Quirky Masterclass

The elements of this are familiar to us ...somehow.
.The dysfunctional ,bizarro family, the idiot savant,or is he just an idiot?...the sympathetic "crazies" ,lining up and taking on the "normal" people...
"Napoleon Dynamite" is totally charming and life affirming...At it's core is something as warm-hearted ,romantic and melancholic as "Gregory's Girl".and it's very very funny...what more could you want?
