Raja is a very simple film. No fancy camerawork. No special sequences.
Just a straight. story, and a film that relies on the characters.
Anything wrong with that? Not at all. Here is the problem. I did not like the
story or the characters. The acting is very good & believable, but It
does not make up for the films problems. Fred, a Frenchman living in
Marrakesh, is a despicable man who is only interested in seducing a young
girl named Raja.. He is frustrated as Raja is reluctant to give in to
him. He seems only only interested in stealing the innocents of the
young women around him as he has whores visit him. The film follows his
attempts for Raja, and really goes no further. I know it's a character
study, and I am not saying that I have to like the characters in a film
to enjoy it. Raja just did nothing for me at all. It's the decisions
that they all made and the the almost chauvinistic attitude the film has to
keep me away from a second viewing.
