    3:10 to Yuma  (1957)

As much as I am looking forward to the remake, I approach this film as if the new one does not exist. It's a very tight and well crafted story. Glen Ford is really strong as Ben Wade, a completely different role than I am used to seeing him play. He is a pleasant, but tough outlaw that you can't help but like. Van Heflin plays Dan Evans who is out for the bounty on Wade's head. Heflin seems frightened at times, and almost frail. This only adds to the tension of the film. I was reminded of High Noon because of the "ticking clock" element. Shot beautifully and quite different than most westerns of it's time, 3:10 to Yuma is an exciting discovery. A gem of a film that makes me long for more like it.

    No End in Sight  (2007)

What will this film show me that I don't already know about the war? Can a documentary be completely balanced while trying to make it's point? Will this film do nothing more than bash Bush and his cronies? I don't support the War, but should this affect my thoughts on the film it's self? These are the questions I was asking myself before watching this film.

From the beginning I was pulled in by what I can only describe as a heaviness and a somber spirit. I was seeing & hearing things I had seen and heard before, but maybe not to the same extent. Yes I know Iraq is a mess, but I was taken back by the sheer magnitude of the situation shown. There really is no end in sight.

We hear from soldiers, journalists, advisers, and see cabinet members saying things that I can only imagine, will haunt them forever. What we do not get from this film is any opinion. We get fact. We see the people of Iraq being truly thankful that Saddam is gone, and we see them confused and angry that their country is in shambles. We see troops being thanked by Iraqis, and troops being shot and blown up. We see the good and the bad. We see the real life situation that I don't even want to think about, but in some way I feel responsible for.

No End In Sight is a film that reminds us of past mistakes that we have made, but have never learned from. It's not telling us what to do. It's showing us what we have done.
