    Red Dawn  (1984)

For some reason I missed this one growing up. For some reason people have told me it's great. For some reason I decided to watch it. For one hundred and one reasons I hate this movie. To be fair I know it's one of those 80's movies that you had to see growing up to enjoy it. It defiantly does not hold up. I should have gone and watched Rescue Dawn instead.

I really have enjoyed everything that Tom Tykwer has done. He is an incredible filmmaker and a true visual storyteller. I heard Perfume was one of those "un-filmable books". Now I haven't read the book but the film is beautiful and compelling. Like the character in the film wanting to create new scents, Tykwer creates visuals that I have really never seen or imagined. For the most part it's a very strong cast, although Dustin Hoffman was a bit over the top for me. It's a total enjoyable and very unique experience.

    A Simple Curve  (2005)

The main problem I had with A Simple Curve is that it feels & looks like a Hallmark or Lifetime movie. Is that bad? No, I guess not, but is is lacking any kind of distinct style. The performances, while being fine are...well...nothing more than fine. The story feels preachy and it's nothing we haven't heard thousands of times before. We do get some great cinematography, but I have to say that most of that was probably because of the beautiful location it was filmed at. All in all it's not a bad film, but with nothing that really stands out, it will be easily forgotten by me.

    The Bridge  (2006)

It's a film that tells the stories of some very sad and lonely people through the people who loved them. Then you actually watch them fall to their death. It's an incredibly strange feeling. I'm giving it 4/5, but I'm still not sure how i truly feel about it. Does that make sense? I didn't think so.

Filmed on location in War-Torn Berlin, Germany, Year Zero captures the struggles and horror of war and it's aftermath through the eyes of a 13 year old boy. The young boy, Edmond Moeschke gives a heartbreaking performance, and as in many Italian neorealist films, we are left devastated.

    13 Tzameti  (2006)

It's 13 Tzameti's tension that propels this film. The filmmakers, if anything, know how to genuinely makes us feel uncomfortable. Exploring the dark side of humanity, Sébastien becomes caught up in a game where humans are treated the way some cruel gamblers would treat animals. At only 86 minutes 13 Tzameti adds nothing more than is needed to tell it's dark & frantic story.
