    Top Secret!  (1984)

I couldn't believe I saw this movie in the theater, and it's still being reviewed.  That means it's selling!  I'm glad.  I love the silly music that has funny lyrics and ridiculous musical perfomances.   This wasn't meant to win any oscars.  It's fun to point & spot the oddities and sing along.  There's a bit of crude humor (a reason why I can't say I love this movie), dry humor, wet humor (underwater bar fight), and even sky humor!  Have you ever sat at the dinner table with a bunch of old guys like Dad and the uncles  telling silly old war stories and jokes?  Well, it could be found in this crazy movie.  It measures the amount of humor in our own lives by asking, "How Silly Can You Get?".

I gotta shape my mashed potatoes like Devil's Peak!  The tempo is a little slow for this quickie generation.  The first third of the story, I asked myself , "What the..what's happening.. what is he thinking...etc."  Then I look for the required phrase in almost EVERY movie : "I don't understand."  That used to nearly kill me, but now I see it as an Easter Egg of sorts.  I would place a bet that someone would say it , oh, about 45min. into the movie.  This movie is an oldie,  where the story has to carry our interest to the very end, and not the cgi nor other fx.  Now that communication tune is playing in my head!  I would reccomend this movie to anyone who has had experience with UFO's and other weird creteures from Crete.  Ha ha, just kidding.  Sorry Ya-ya Billie.  Seriously, anyone who is studying film making should tear this movie apart and make another one.  This time with gobs of special effects.

I saw this movie with my husband  who is a Star Wars fan.  He thought it would be to the calibre of Lord of the Rings series of movies.   It was too "kiddy" for him, so the next week we took our 11 year old daughter, her best friend, and our teen daughter to see it.  I must admit, I liked it better the second time around.  Here's what the kids said about it:   "  Clone Wars is a super cool movie. We went to see it with our best freind, and we all shared the same favorite scene: when the captain of the clone troopers told a number of droids " You are out numbered. So the droid says" Hold on a sec... 1, 2, 3 *BOOM* " (Look out for this part of the movie. Everyone in the theater was laughing their heads off, especialy the little kids.)  Anakin Skywalker is still the good guy in this movie. The Girl in this movie 'Asolka' is a sassy charecter and a great Jedi -to-be.  I think (becuse of this movie) I might be a Jedi for Halloween.  I have to admit, this is in my mental list of favorite movies."

    Wall-E  (2008)

WALL-E is a cute story that my tweens liked a lot.  I believe they were studying the romantic butterfly dance between WALL-E and EVE.  I wasn't sure why the robots wanted to keep humans inactive.  Did they draw their evergy from himan fat cells?  Somebody help me with this, please.  I missed it.  I must have been munching on too much loud and crunchy popcorn.

    Tropic Thunder  (2008)

Tropic Thunder, Tropic Thunder... what can I say about this film?  While watching this, I got this nagging twitch in my cheek.  By the end, my eyes were dripping blood.  My brain was trying to escape from the theater without me!    I felt this was a first draft skit put together by bored rich guys.  Walking out of the theater, I scanned the posters of movies I wish I saw INSTEAD.

    Once  (2007)

I felt mostly  comfortable watching this movie, that I felt I was a little sibling, wishing I got a quarter every time someone said the f-word, (cha-ching!) , and following the characters around with my video camera.  Big brothers and big sisters always ignore little sibling tag-alongs.    The music was very nice.  In fact, I was going through Circuit City's soundtrack section when I saw "Once."   I didn't get it because I never saw the movie.  So I looked for the movie and WOW. Expensive!  Finally after thinking it over for a few months, I gave in.  I enjoyed the storyline of the movie but still don't know why that "Old World" of people have to cuss so much.  I guess they're a bunch of Fornicators Under Consent of King -ers.  My British friend said it's a way of life now, to profane everything casually.

I popped this movie in when I needed  to get out of the blues.  It worked!

Even though Billy Crystal is the funny one, Jack Palance stole the show.   He's that quiet and mysterious guy everyone wanted to figure out.

This is my favorite Gidget Movie.  It's sweet and it has has 2 nice guys fighting over her! There's a little bit of surfing in this story, and a bit more of comedic song and dance.  The story is funny and twisted and yes, there is an evil person trying ruin Gidget's vacation.

    Blue Crush  (2002)

This is an all girl movie.  A surfing Cinderella or Roxy Balboa is what I got out of it.  The two girls in the background?  They are not her evil stepsisters.  No, they are her best friends and Hawaiian Hut Roomies who push their friend to the top of the Pipeline.   That's equivalent to going to the moon, for surfers.  Lots of girl problems to solve, sisterly girl moments and was fun to watch with my teen girls who like Gidget  and now want to surf in Hawaii.  This film is like any sport, if you take it too seriously, you won't enjoy it.  Gidget goes Hawaiian

    Big Wednesday  (1978)

What a fun movie to watch!  From start to finish, the story was alive.  No dead spots, and the boys knew how to have a good time surfing.  This movie was reccomended to me by a California surfer.

I saw the trailer and noticed the soundtrack of The Prince of Egypt playing.  I've always wondered what that cartoon movie would look like if it was made with real people and the new special fx.  It would be really cool if it were 3D at the IMAX.  That's the best for an epic story.

    Freaky Friday  (2003)

I would definitely freak out if this happened between my daughter and me!   This movie was fun to watch together, seeing the personalities switch.  The question, "Would you do that, mom?" came up frequently.   The characters made sacrifices for eachother.  We agreed we'd probably do the same.  Afterwards, we decided to pretend to do that magical switch. There was a lot of mimicking and mockery between us, and...  OMG, I didn't think she thought that lowly of me!

I think I would have named him Volcano Monkey instead of Hellboy if I discovered him.  He's a hero.  Heroes don't come from hell, but they can definitely give bad guys hell.  No other voice than Ron Pearlman's can make this character believable.  This series of cartoons is an entertaining reminder of the Spiritual Battle beyond the veil which is going on all around us.
