  • My Life Without Me

I cried every five minutes.  The only other movie that made me literally cry every five minutes was Pollock.  I never felt sorry for the dying main character, Ann.  I felt hope for her.  A person who just finds out she has a short time to live, but decides to turn her life into truly her choice.  We should all look at our lives that way, but I guess that kind of clarity only comes when illusions of the future fade.

  • Shark Attack

Talk about guilt and pleasure, like peanut butter and jelly.  There have been three Shark Attack movies, I've seen them, but I only own the third one.  Where do I begin to explain why?  Who cares.  Its all about the characters.  When the two leads join together to chase after the shark to save potential victims.  The female, Cat (a shark researcher) screams ,"Oh my God,"  with her hand cupped towards her mouth everytime there is a close call with the shark or an actual attack.  It looks like she's laughing.  Its funny.  Later on after the shark has attacked their boat the shark is after Cat, so the guy, Ben (the resort security diver) tries to save her by attacking the shark, so the shark turns on him.  Ben then starts screaming like a girl and then he needs to be rescued by her.  Its classic.  And if that did nothing for you, maybe what he mutters to her while they discuss their evening plans will be enough for you to rewind over and over again.  You heard right.  And it was improv.

    Dog Soldiers  (2002)

This movie is so awesome.  Werewolves and soldiers, how cool is that.  Both are clever beasts armed, one with bullets and the other with blades (claws).  And it being Scottish is an added bonus.  I'm a dork who loves werewolf movies almost as much as I love shark movies, and this one is probably my favorite.

    Secretary  (2002)

I wish every woman who wanted to be an actress strove to be as open, exposed, honest, confident, modest and everything else that Maggie Gyllenhaal is in spades.  The selfish side of me hopes she never wins an academy award, so her talents might not ever have to be compromised and she will remain brillant.  The movie itself was quite entertaining.  It is a perfect example of what an arthouse crossover to mainstream should be.

  • The Princess Bride

There are very few movies for me that have as much fun dialog as the Princess Bride.  "You wish to surrend to me?  Very well then, I accept."  It may be judgemental for me to say this, but anyone who doesn't feel good after watching the Princess Bride or at least enjoy it a little, doesn't have a soul.  It is the funniest warmest action movie I know that has the most consistent effect on the most varied of people.

  • Team America

I was standing outside of the movie theater staring at the marquee debating on what other movie to watch other than Team America (which all my friends were there to see).  I did not want to watch the puppet movie, but nothing else was appealing.  Inside the theater, with Icee in hand and my roommate next to me, the sight of the Eiffel Tower being destroyed sent me into a fit.  I was slapping my roommate's leg and banging my head against hers.  During the musical numbers I was singing along.  Between the sex and the puking my ass had to get up just so I could turn around and pound the seat.  Halfway through the movie I wanted the soundtrack.  By the end of the movie I was oligated to own it once it came out on dvd.  Team America is the one film in my collect that I've replaced once, but if I ever have to replace it again because a friend's neglect to return it, that will be the end of me lending my movies.
