    BloodRayne  (2006)

quite possibly the worst vampire movie ever.
    and i've seen many.

this movie did a great injustice to the video game from whence it was based.
the action scenes were poorly choreographed and cheesy.
the script was boring and lifeless.
the acting was atrocious.  seriously.  suggesting that acting was involved is really pushing it.
    crap.  absolute crap.
and Meatloaf as a vampire.  wow.  what has the horror genre come to?

just watched parts of this tonite. and its a very interesting dvd. its mainly just the girls dancing, but really, what else do you need from a bellydancing video. the soundtrack is awesome. the girls are quite...ummmm...talented.

    MirrorMask  (2005)

interesting film. very tim burtonish... neil gaiman is an awesome writer and this film demonstrates his keen sense of the weird.

    Ultraviolet  (2006)

o.k....so its been a while since i've walked out of a movie. but there i was...leaving after 20 minutes. this movie sucked on so many levels. milla's acting was horrible. the dialogue was cheesy and ineffective. the special effects look great, for an xbox game. but not for a major motion picture. and the tossing-the-hair-over-the-shoulder thing was old after about the gazillionth time. yes milla, we know you're hot. but looks can't carry the film alone. so lame.

oh metallica...how the mighty have fallen. i loved you guys when nobody wanted to. i even kind of endured the napster days, with lars whining and crying about people stealing their music. i'm all for copyright protection too, but when your claim to fame has been "Rock and Roll! Seek and DESTROY, Pillage! Chaos!" - "But dont steal our music!" umm...ok. whatever. but i was able to make it through that. but then you filmed this documentary. and it was as if you took all my awesome rock and roll metallica memories and pooped on them. and i'm talking a full-on "just ate sauerkraut" kind of poop. seriously....watching hetfield crying through his recovery and his emotional "issues" made me wanna barf up my corn flakes. and a therapist sitting in band meetings? are you friggin kidding me? who signed off on that idea? Lars should have jumped across the table, choked him and shoved a drumstick in his eye. but no...there you were sitting at the table talking about your "feelings". waaa waaa wooo. this is rock and roll baby. its supposed to be hard. its supposed to be self-destructive. so anyway... take this dvd and eat it. you could probably chase it with some sparkling water while cruising town in your mini-van listening to barry manilow brighten your day. You guys used to rock, but now you're just a bunch of pansy-nancy soccer moms. you guys suck. suck hard.

    Gremlins  (1984)

so i watched Gremlins tonite while i'm workin on the book. my daughter had it and its been a while since i've watched so why not. and then it hit me. this is a spielberg flick. i recently watched another stevey film, Munich. and wow. what a change. i wish he would get back to the fun films at least once or twice. gremlins also brought up an interesting point of logic. the kid says "never, ever - no matter how much he whines, feed him after midnite." well isn't the entire day, technically after midnite? when is it "safe" to feed the poor thing breakfast? just a thought.

    Munich  (2005)

i dunno. this film really didnt do a whole lot for me. not as powerful as some of his other stuff. and i just couldnt get used to the Hulk being the main Israeli. The movie really never seems to go anywhere. Seemed to be lacking a sense of direction and meaning. I guess that I was supposed to feel bad when his teammates get iced, but really, why should I? the story doesnt really build character history for anyone, including the main dude. Theres a hint that maybe mom was a crappy parent and dad was an inmate. but aside from that, i never really got into why he hated palestinians. aside from the fact that they were palestinians. i dunno. just didnt do it for me i guess.

ok....aside from the suspension of disbelief, i'd like to propose a much shorter version of the film that perhaps JRR Tolkien overlooked:

Frodo gets the ring.  Gandalf finds out.
Gandalf Summons a Great Eagle for Frodo to ride on.
They get to Mordor in perhaps a day or two.  Drop off the ring.
Blammo....done.  The end.  No big battles with huge losses of life.
No hobbits getting stabbed in the shoulder.  No Elves moving back to Elfy land.
but i guess that wouldnt have been as dramatic or engaging.

    :)

    The Running Man  (1987)

    The Running Man

got my copy from SPOUT today.
I love this film.  Everytime i watch it, i find something new.
And this time was no exception.

I definitely found something new on my freshly arrived DVD.
There's a documentary on here listed as a "Special Feature."
    It's "Special", that's for sure.
It's called "Lockdown on Main Street" and is basically a liberal anti-bush documentary on the current state of privacy in america.  Its 100% anti-Patriot Act.  Regardless of my personal political preference (which they - Artisan - have successfully offended), an action film is not the proper venue for political discussion.  It's almost as if they had a desperate need to get this out there and this happened to be the most current release available.  Or maybe its a poke at Republican Governor Ahnold.  Anyway.  I was a little upset.  Fortunately there's enough good stuff on the DVD, that skipping this gave me great joy and satisfaction.
Shame on Artisan for doing that.

The DVD is still worth buying and its a great price.

I love one of Arnolds quotes in this flick "I'm not into politics, I'm into survival."  Gotta love irony.
