Amc35JR Bloghttp://www.spout.com/blogs/amc35jr/default.aspxen-USSpout RSSClassic gangster filmhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/amc35jr/archive/2007/12/2/22472.aspxMon, 03 Dec 2007 00:14:44 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:22472Amc35JR0http://www.spout.com/blogs/amc35jr/comments/22472.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/amc35jr/commentrss.aspx?PostID=22472<p>This is a great gangster film and should be considered a classic for the dialogue alone.&nbsp;&nbsp; Tom Regan, bursting into a room of scantily clothed showgirls, &quot;Close your eyes, ladies, I&#39;m coming through.&quot;&nbsp; Tom Regan going back into the bedroom with Myrna after just conversing with his boss and her lover Leo and Myrna asking what him what he told Leo: &quot;I told him you were a tramp and he should dump you.&quot;&nbsp; Tom after being informed that Rug Daniels had just been found dead and without his toupee: &quot;Maybe it was Indians&quot;.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tom Regan offers a corrupt cop a drink, the cop being&nbsp;there to bust up a rival&#39;s gin joint at Leo&#39;s behest and the cop doing nothing but leaning up against a car replies: &quot;Not now Tom, I&#39;m on duty.&quot;&nbsp; Johnny Caspar asking Leo for permission to kill Bernie,&nbsp; Leo: &quot;So you want to kill him&quot;.&nbsp; The Dane: &quot;For starters.&quot;</p><p>Tom: &quot;Intimidating helpless women is part of what I do.&nbsp; Myrna: &quot;Then go find one and intimidate her.</p><p>&nbsp;Tom Regan was a cold heartless SOB, but his wit and loyalty to his boss, somehow made him a likeable guy in my book.&nbsp; The dialogue in this movie is a notch above anything you usually see in movie these days.&nbsp; </p><p>Even the minor characters were unforgettable.&nbsp; Mink, the motormouthed weasel, Frankie (the huge gangster who gets his butt whipped because he is a gentleman and gives Tom a minute to prepare himself and Tom whacks him with a chair), Johnny Caspar&#39;s overweight and not too bright son. </p>The Wendell Baker Storyhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/amc35jr/archive/2007/12/2/22469.aspxSun, 02 Dec 2007 23:38:26 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:22469Amc35JR0http://www.spout.com/blogs/amc35jr/comments/22469.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/amc35jr/commentrss.aspx?PostID=22469<p>Great movie!&nbsp; If you like most of the Wilson brother&#39;s movies, you&#39;ll definitely like this one.&nbsp; Luke Wilson is a likeable sleazeball.&nbsp; The kind of person you know you shouldn&#39;t like but do.&nbsp; The sort of character Vince Vaughn usually plays.</p><p>The movie manages to shift back and forth between comedy and sentimental drama and back to comedy with ease.&nbsp; This is not easy to do.&nbsp; The only criticism I have is that Eddie Griffin&#39;s talents seem to have been wasted in a minor role.&nbsp; He is a great comic actor and if he was going to be in the cast the script should have given him more to work with.</p><p>&nbsp;DVD extras:&nbsp; There is a hilarious interview of Seymour Cassel and Harry Dean Stanton by Andrew and Luke Wilson.&nbsp; Harry Dean Stanton is either convincingly acting crazy or certifiably nuts.&nbsp; </p>
