Cloverfield was an intense thrill ride that manages to stay fresh throughout its entirety. I do have some personal problems with the overall story arc revolving the ending. I can’t help but to feel this type of ending is becoming rapidly clichéd, and on a personal level I’m getting tired of it. I don’t want to tread too far into spoiler alert, so we can leave it at that.
Despite this notion, I still think the movie itself is a must see. The first person experience with the handheld camera works wonders with building up the intensity and overall gritty feel of the atmosphere that helps the movie suck you as a viewer in. I honestly felt as if I was there running through the streets of New York with a giant monster roaming about after me. It was definitely a unique experience that was handled with perfection. I really feel this movie took the tried and true monster movie formula and reinvented it. Kudos!
