The Weather Man

I think the bulk of what I call "good films" tend to fall into one of two categories: either they're engaging and compelling in the moment but then quickly fade from my awareness, or they're just fine while I'm watching them, but then grow in my consciousness as time passes. (I guess what I consider "great films" manage to accomplish both—they're equally compelling during and l ...

Live or DVD?

I can't wait to see this film as I've watched a live performance of this opera in the Vienna Opera House in 1998 which left me quite speechless. I was so touched by the music and once I figured out what was actually going on* I became quite mezmorized. I have a copy of the music which is strong and delicate. I'd love to hear your opinion if you've seen this film - or if you ...

Wow, this is one of the most interesting films I've seen in a good long while. It is, I suppose, a documentary, but only inasmuch as there's not another word for non-fiction film that I can think of. It doesn't follow the narrative/cinematic conventions of documentary film in any sense. It is probably better conceived as film performance art, or perhaps really good travel me ...

Over the past week, I watched the first season of the British dramody with my spouse. There were several aspects of the show I especially appreciated: 1) British actors are not as beautiful as American actors. (And I use "actor" as a gender-neutral term.) The performers weren't ugly, but they looked a little strange at first. Yet like all real-life relationships, the character ...

I just saw this movie this past weekend. I thought it was enchanting and also a little creepy. At first I kept thinking...why are these kids so easily persuaded? Lucy just goes off with a stranger then Edmond does...and the strangers are almost too intimate with the children. I was weirded out, but then the movie kept getting better and I thought less about the weirdness of ...

The premise of this film is fantastic especially for singletons who yearn for and loath those who become four-eyed monstors inseparable from the moment their eyes meet and stuck at the hip. The film starts out hilarious with snap shots of couples and men proposing on video tape to their future wives. It's very sweet and funny. Then, it gets a little boring and more home-vid ...

Reel Thoughts

So, I borrowed these two movies from my co-worker. And they both so happen to be thrillers set aboard an airplane. While Flightplan was predictable, Red Eye was not. Or, at least, not as much. The movie takes turns that leave your heart pounding. I would expect nothing less from Wes Craven. It's also very tight. I highly priase how the movie sets up the situation so quickl ...

Hello all - here is my daily log from my trip to Rwanda last summer, ill post some pics later this month. 6/15 The flights from Grand Rapids to Minneapolis to Amsterdam went well, with the layover in Amsterdam being the most interesting because hardly. The layover in Minneapolis was only 1:30. In Amsterdam we had a real short layover. There was a guy who slipped in some puk ...

The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold
A sequel or a copy?

Pammyk's thoughts

This is really strange. "The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold" is supposed to be a sequel to the 1992 "The Cutting Edge", but if you read the descriptions they are the exact same storyline, and they admit it. They also both feature a famous ice skater of the time starring as herself.

I was expecting more from this movie. I mean it was a good watch, but I think it started out funny and then sorta drifted into not so funny and not even a really touching romance - and I wanted her to end up with the other guy.
