If you are a member of this group, you love everything about the Super Bowl of movies, especially the movies themselves! You love to make predictions, guess at the politics, discuss and dissect who should have been nominated and who should have won...or, you're just an avid movie lover that likes to pay attention. Group Name: Movies we do not want to see - Try to convince us to see these movies!
Group Description: Want to be a member? Send me a message with a list of at least 5 movies that you do not want to see.

There are many movies that I do not want to see. I'm not sure if its right of me to decide never to see a movie without seeing it. You know...like when a kid says they hate mushrooms even though they admit never trying them. So maybe this is a good spot for people to display movies they don't think they want to see, and see if anyone can convince us to try them out.
Body: Ach, very hard! Haven't seen Killer's Kiss, Lolita, The Killing or Paths of Glory. But everything he does is impressive in one way or another. After a struggle, I had to go with Strangelove. Fantastically funny dark satire, with an excellent cast.
Body: I don't think I chose Chapman out of sentiment (i.e., because he died), but from genuine affection through all the years I've been watching Python. Holy Grail and Fawlty Towers are classics. Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite movie makers. I love Terry Jones' interest in & depiction of things medieval...well, they're all excellent and very funny. But Graham Chapman's writing and expressions appealed to me the most. I loved it when he played women. :-)
Body: Went with his Burn After Reading role, because it was so much fun. I didn't like the movie over all--it started off well, then took that shocking turn to the downer that just, well, ruined it for me. Too bad -- the cast and the writing were good otherwise. But my favorite of Pitt's roles is still 12 Monkeys. Agree with Pippin about Angelina Jolie--did not see Mr. & Mrs. Smith precisely because she was in it. I have seen a few of her movies, but she's never been worth the effort, really, and she just annoys me. (Though not as much as Kiera Knightley.) Haven't seen Benjamin Button yet, either; sort of lost interest, for some reason. People either really like it or are indifferent to it. I'll see it eventually, but there are other films I want to see more. Like Inglourious Basterds. :-) Babel was good; Troy was not, though Pitt was OK. Enjoyed Troy mostly because I took my niece to see it; her reactions were worth the sitting through. The Ocean's films are fun and I liked his role in those; 13 would be my runner-up in this list. I still can't quite decide if I liked or disliked the Jesse James film. It had such a strange feel. I don't fault Pitt--he and the rest of the cast were good, but....well, guess I'm still thinking about it.
Body: This one was a little hard, too. I plunked for Great Outdoors in the end, because I do believe I enjoyed it the most of the others. Though the Vacations, Mr. Mom and Pretty In Pink are up there in the near & dear hall o'fame. Home Alone, while it was sometimes funny and made me boo-hoo like a fool at the end, was horrific in the sense that nearly everything the boy Culkin did to his adversaries would have, in real life, killed them. I was gasping too much to find the hits very funny. No normal child is that inventive, anyway. Well, not that there's a lot of strict realism in any of the other films... As an afterthought - I do not want to see any more remakes of Miracle on 34th Street. Ever. The version with the young Natalie Wood cannot be improved on. It doesn't translate well to contemporary times, no matter who writes them. :-)
Body: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for me. But Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles are dear friends. Though I couldn't really relate to the lives these teenagers led, there are some things that never change -- such as the family interactions in Candles. :-D P,T&A is the best of the bunch, I think, because of the mix of comedy and drama. When you think of the mistakes that could have been made--who would have been better cast in those roles? Great sets and costumes-all those neutral colours. In short, the attetion to detail was impressive. And it served a greater end. Not only did Wes avoid tawdry criticisms about cross-age sex etc. but he produced an elevating movie. JImBell
Agree about Rushmore - love that film. It may well be his best, though Royal Tenenbaums is pretty close. Body:
I had to say Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I just love it. Can't help it. I saw Stagecoach so long ago, I can't remember many specifics, but I know it was amazing! Sounds like it's time for a revisit. Is there anyone here who actually found Gone with the Wind a bit long and grating? I find Vivien Leigh to be pretty annoying a lot of the time. But people say she was perfect for the part. I've never read the book though, so maybe Scarlett O'Hara the characters is just annoying to me.
Same here with Stagecoach - I just can't remember much about it. (sigh) There are too many like that, alas... There are a few of these films I haven't seen, and it was hard to choose, but in the end I went with Wizard of Oz. It's such a staple from my childhood -- a very good old friend. Ditto Gone With the Wind, actually. I remember being about 5 years old, watching it with my parents at a drive-in. Hanging over the front seat between my parents, crying during the burning of Atlanta, wondering what all those people with burned homes were going to do - I didn't understand a lot of the rest of it at the time...but I digress. The film is better than the book, which is written in a rather soap-opera-y style, and everyone's right -- Leigh was the perfect Scarlet. She's meant to be annoying. ;-) I've never liked any version of Wuthering Heights much, though I've seen a few - the story is bizarre rather than romantic, if you ask me; none of the characters are likeable. So why do I keep watching different versions of it? Mostly because of who gets cast in them.
Body: Not strong on the drama nor any "action" at all; the center of the film is the performance of Beethoven's stirring third symphony, the "Eroica." And while the music is excellent, there's little else to sink one's teeth into. I'm sure the film meant to give an idea of how the symphony was originally received and touch on what was happening in the composer's life at the time, etc., but these all seem to be tidbits tacked on to give the actors something to do besides stand around listening to the orchestra. I loved hearing the the music but my attention kept wandering. I might as well have been playing the CD of the symphony that I own.
Body: Bewildering, at times dumbfounding dialog; uninteresting, unconvincing characters. Hard to follow what's going on. But it seems to be that a present-day woman (Sadie) is channeling an ancestress (Anna) and re-living the other woman's love life. Meanwhile she has a crush on the local handyman but is so tongue-tied she can't even speak to him. The time periods interweave (causing the bewilderment) and the ending lamely, vaguely ties things together but doesn't make the viewer any happier about sitting through the nonsense.
Body: Boxing always seemed such a stupid concept -- two guys (or women) who have no beef with one another standing up to punch each other's lights out. So I guess that's why I've only seen two of the listed films: Rocky and Cinderella Man. I actually loved both, but voted for Cinderella Man because it's better, and I feel it's been underappreciated, too. I keep intending to see Raging Bull one day, after all I've heard about it. And now I'm curious about The Set Up. :-)
So I guess that's why I've only seen two of the listed films: Rocky and Cinderella Man. I actually loved both, but voted for Cinderella Man because it's better, and I feel it's been underappreciated, too. I keep intending to see Raging Bull one day, after all I've heard about it. Body: But he was already a great performer and singer, so perhaps it's no surprise that his rendition of Garland's songs (and some of them are pretty great songs) comes off wonderfully. He has a strong voice that can belt as well as evoke tenderness, poignancy and romance. He can't dance and doesn't tell stories well, but it doesn't matter--the voice, the songs are all. He well earned his ovation at the end.
The disappointment is that on the disc I got from Netflix, there were no extras. I'd have loved to see some backstage footage, an interview, something.
Body: I don't have cable so hadn't heard of this film till I saw The Fall and listened to the director's commentary. He said he'd chosen Lee Pace for Fall on the strength of Pace's performance in Soldier's Girl. Curiosity piqued, I rented it from Netflix. And was disappointed. Not in the performances or the tragic story itself but in the writing, which I thought was clumsy and disjointed; that just sort of ruined it for me.
