If you are a member of this group, you love everything about the Super Bowl of movies, especially the movies themselves! Group Name: Movies we do not want to see - Try to convince us to see these movies!
Group Description: Want to be a member? Send me a message with a list of at least 5 movies that you do not want to see.

There are many movies that I do not want to see. I'm not sure if its right of me to decide never to see a movie without seeing it. You know...like when a kid says they hate mushrooms even though they admit never trying them. So maybe this is a good spot for people to display movies they don't think they want to see, and see if anyone can convince us to try them out.
Body:
I think Prince of Darkness is among Carpenter's Top 5 best movies, along with The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Big Trouble In Little China and They Live. It's definitely a childhood classic for me. The Exorcist is high up on my list of all-time favorite movies. I watched it around 50 times as a teenager. Many of the images (and sounds) still hold up as creepy today. My favorite scene of that nature is when Father Karras walks into Regan's room after taking a break from the ritual and finds his dead mother sitting there. The first time I saw Suspiria I was a bit scared ("Hell is behind that door"), but now I watch the movie with great amusement (and admiration for its unique style). The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is more of a nerve-shredding experince than outright scary. Phantasm is fairly silly. Alien is tense, but I don't think it ever scared me (it did terrify my cousin). The only two movies I consistently think about as being scary are Prince of Darkness and Event Horizon. That part in Haxan when Satan leaps from behind the organ always makes me jump, though.
Wow. I was going to mention Argento's Suspiria (1977) but you beat me to it! Probably the scariest of the Italian genre. Another one that I thought was pretty creepy was Mia Farrow in Blind Terror (1971) (aka : "See No Evil") ... This is one of those movies that make you realize that it would really suck to be blind! Another one would be Audrey Hepburn in Wait Until Dark (1967) . *** SPOILERS *** In "Wait until Dark" Audrey Hepburn is a recently blinded young single woman who is being stalked in her own apartment by murderous drug dealers played by Richard Crenna and Alan Arkin! At one point she decides to try to level the playing field by disabling or breaking every light in the apartment... Except she forgets about one... The REFRIGERATOR! ... (Bummer!) ... *** END OF SPOILERS *** This movie was pretty intense but it didn't compare to "See No Evil" . The Mia Farrow movie is pretty much intense and scary beyond belief. It would really suck to be blind... I was thinking that it might be helpful if Dana could join us on here and at least tell us what movies she HAS seen.... < GOR >
Body:
Most Horror movies either make me laugh or disturb me, but it's a rare treat to discover a genuinely frightening motion picture. The following are the few that I would put in the underwear soiling category: Prince of Darkness (1987) - As silly as this John Carpenter movie is, and as much as Donald Pleasence hams it up, there are some seriously creepy scenes. The scariest are the future transmissions of the dark figure emerging from the church. I saw this as a kid and those images haunted me. The "I've got a message for you, and you're not going to like it" scene is another one that freaked me out. My esteem for Prince of Darkness has actually grown over the years because I can't get it out my head. Most movies don't accomplish that. Event Horizon (1997) - People constantly seem to put down the director Paul W.S. Anderson, and maybe he deserves it overall (Soldier wasn't that bad, however), but Event Horizon is some terrifying shit. I saw this as an adult and it scared me silly, so I'm grateful I never came across it as a youngster. The feeling of impending doom never lets up and some of the images are überghastly. Repulsion (1965) - Unsettling more than scary most of the time, there are still a few scenes that provide a decent shock. I try not to spend too much time by myself after seeing this because I fear I might start hallucinating and leave rotting animals lying around. Phantasm (1979) - The only movie to scare me more before I saw it than after. I had a babysitter who saw Phantasm and decided to tell me about it as a ghost story (I had no idea Phantasm even existed until years later). I was terrified of my bathroom mirror for most of my childhood because I thought some evil man would appear in it. When I finally saw the movie, I realized my imagination was more fearsome than Phantasm turned out to be.
I often ask people I know "What is the scariest movie you've ever seen?" ... I think about 8 times out of 10 the answer is "The Exorcist" ... I think there is a very good reason for that ... The Exorcist (1973) is STILL the SCARIEST movie ever made! A couple of people. including a big, burly biker-type dude told me that Phantasm (1979) was the scariest movie they ever saw. A couple of friends suggested Alien (1979) .... I should have listed Prince of Darkness (1987) earlier! Yeah, this one freaked me out pretty good.. When John Carpenter does HORROR he does it right! Halloween (1978) and The Fog (1980) are two of the best horror movies ever made in my book...I especially liked "Prince of Darkness" for the dream sequences.. That freaked me out... A "radio voiced" guy saying , "This is not a dream. We are transmitting these images into your subconcious brain. We are transmitting from the year two zero zero... (STATIC) ... Creepy suff! I liked that movie a lot! < GOR >
Body: Which horror movies are truly scary? What scared you? My friend Dana enjoys watching horror movies but she has yet to see one that actually scared her. She asked me for some suggestions. I told her that WE (HORROR MOVIES 101) would try to help her. Any suggestions from my fellow horrorphiles will be appreciated. My standard answer to this question is that The Exorcist (1973) is STILL the scariest movie ever made. But the fact is that horror movies are entirely subjective. What is scary to one person might be laughable to another. Also there is this... Even the scariest movie is only scary the first time. A scary movie tends to lose it's scare factor exponentially with each viewing. Here are a few that scared the crap out of me the first time I saw them... The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) The Hills Have Eyes (1977) Night of the Living Dead (1968) The Haunting (1963/I) The Legend of Hell House (1973) Psycho (1960) Darkness Falls (2003) And a little movie about a killer chimp called Link (1986) ... No shit. This one scared the crap out of me on late night TV one night.... of course I was pretty stoned and tired at the time... So what are your thoughts? What scared YOU? < GOR >
Body:
Great list! Thanks for starting this group and posting this list. It's been pretty much dead around here in the groups for a while, and I haven't had much will or energy for a while to make any attempts to revive it. But as long as people keep posting new stuff, I'll keep reading and reply when I can. Sorry I don't really have any movies to add. I wouldn't be surprised if our Spout friend Dr. Gor would though... Gor, you reading this?
Ditto what Rizzo said, lordofdance. Thanks for starting this group and giving us something to talk about. I like your list although I have only seen two of the movies you listed. Bluebeard (1972) was pretty campy and fun and had a few really hot 1970's actresses, like you said. Butterfly (1982) was pretty steamy and Pia Zadora was pretty much smokin' hot in that one. When I think of "sleazy nudity movies" I think of certain actresses who are beautiful beyond belief and who don't mind taking their clothes off at the drop of a hat... Melissa Moore ; Caged Fury (1989) : is probably THE penultimate "women-in-prison" movie after Caged Heat . Sorority House Massacre II (1990) : 'nuff said. Hard to Die (1990) : This is one of my favorites. A group of nubile young nymphs are hired to do an overnight inventory at a lingere factory. When a demonic Imp is accidentally released from it's box it causes the emergency fire sprinklers to go off, thus drenching the girls' clothes and causing them to take a shower, one by one, and puting on some sexy lingere which they will wear for the rest of the movie. Fun stuff! Brinke Stevens ; The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) : 'nuff said. Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity (1987) : sci-fi T & A ... Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (1988) : I think the title says it all... Haunting Fear (1991) : Good creepy horror with a frequently nude Brinke. Nastassja "Nasty" Kinski ; To the Devil a Daughter (1976) : as the daughter of Satan, Nastassja is completely nude and completely yummy... Cat People (1982) : In Paul Schrader's gory remake of the 1942 classic, Nastassja likes to show off her yummy little body at every opportunity... More to come... < GOR >
Body:

So did anything about her seem ethereal? Do you think she was a ghost?
Do you mean besides her very odd behaviour towards a total stranger and the fact that she seemingly vanished into thin air in an instant? As I said before she looked as real to me as any person I have ever seen and her hand felt real enough to me when we did the "high-five"... There was something at that instant when we did the high-five... Her eyes seemed to wander from me and looked at something in the distance... almost skyward. The expresion on her face changed and the smile went away. At that instant I thought this was very strange. Her blonde hair was pinned up in the back and her eyes were brown or hazel, I think. She wore a grey cloth jacket that was buttoned or zipped up to the neck with grey "fur" around the neck and sleeves and bottom and blue-jeans. As you have read earlier, I have seen at least a couple of "ghosts" and this girl did not fit the bill... this was something else... Also she was STRIKINGLY beautiful! I would almost say the prettiest girl I have ever seen! And that is saying something! I just don't know what happened that day and it is still confusing to me! < GOR >
Also there was this... Thinking back on it, she seemed to appear out of nowhere as well. As I got out of my car and began walking towards the door of the store I was looking around and there was nobody really near me. There were people walking in and out of the store but that was somewhat in the distance. As I began walking I looked down towards my feet and when I looked up again there was this girl about 20 feet away and looking directly at me and walking straight up to me as if she knew me. Just then an elderly couple passed in front of me, between me and this girl, and her gaze never left me. She did not acknowledge them at all. All of her attention seemed to be focused directly on me. I just found the whole thing to be very strange indeed. < GOR >
Body: Every Halloween I make it a point to watch at least a couple good horror films. This year, with the popularity of Paranormal Activity following on the heels of Blair Witch , I decided to go "old-school" with the original ultra-low-budget blockbuster that started them all. Night of the Living Dead (1968) was THE drive-in hit movie of it's day that set the standards for horror movies - and ZOMBIE movies - for years to come. I first saw this at the drive-in during it's initial release (my Dad took me) and I have seen it about 100 times since then. I have no less than 6 (!) DIFFERENT copies of this movie in my collection including TWO different colorized versions and the infamous "30th Anniversary Edition" that includes newly filmed added scenes. This year I watched the original version. What a great movie. I have memorized every scene and every line of dialogue and it never gets old! I followed this up with the 1990 remake directed by Tom Savini... Night of the Living Dead (1990) ... You all know how much I dislike remakes (usually), but in this case I actually liked the remake better! Let us say that it was at least as good as the original! Filmed in color (the original was filmed in black and white simply because they could not afford color film) and with better actors and crew and a bigger budget this was simply a better film! Much more action packed and intense than the original but with the same story line this is simply a better movie! There! I've said it! You can crucify me now... < GOR >
This has been going on for more than a year. You would think that the SPOUT administrators would have noticed this by now and would have corrected the problem. It is obvious that they have not. Obviously nobody cares. I think that SPOUT needs some new management. I joined this site because I love movies and I started my little Horror Movies 101 group hoping to find a couple of people to talk about horror movies with. This exploded into a big thing and it was great fun for awhile but I guess now the party is over. Too bad. Body:

Still stuck. Any word on whether it will be fixed?
Hey, Christi, why don't you just tell everyone the truth. The "Spout-Gods" have abandoned this site and we are on our own. The "link-a-movie" function has not worked for me for more than a year! So I just link my titles to IMDb instead. Several of the stats have not been updated for nearly a year. There have been NO new members here for quite some time so I believe there is NO advertising. Looking through the movies I have not noticed ANY that are still for sale on SPOUT! I have purchased several films from SPOUT in the past and would continue to do so but I cannot find any movies for sale! It looks like this site is going down the drain and I will do everything in my power to keep my Horror Movies 101 group from going with it. < GOR >
I am beginning to think a "virgin sacrifice" might be in order but where am I going to find one of THOSE ??? < GOR >
< GOR >
