Group Description: Year after year, movie lovers and non movie lovers alike discuss ad nauseum the fate of films nominated for the utmost honor, the Academy Award. If you are a member of this group, you love everything about the Super Bowl of movies, especially the movies themselves! You love to make predictions, guess at the politics, discuss and dissect who should have been nominated and who should have won...or, you're just an avid movie lover that likes to pay attention. Come join the group!
Group Name: Movies we do not want to see - Try to convince us to see these movies!
Group Description: Want to be a member? Send me a message with a list of at least 5 movies that you do not want to see.

There are many movies that I do not want to see. I'm not sure if its right of me to decide never to see a movie without seeing it. You know...like when a kid says they hate mushrooms even though they admit never trying them. So maybe this is a good spot for people to display movies they don't think they want to see, and see if anyone can convince us to try them out.
Body:
Gor, Have you heard of this movie, The Human Centipede? Someone just sent me this link to gross me out, and it sure did the trick. http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2009/09/not-your-grandmas-a-to-m-movie I think this might be the most revolting thing I've ever heard of in a movie. I gagged a bit just reading about it and watching the clip. For a guy who gets a kick out of Nekromantik, I wonder if you've seen or heard of this one.
Ha! this is Great! Thanks Rizzo. Man, I wish we could all get together and see this at a matinee showing, that would be terrific. Part of the intriguing synopsis: ( can it start any better than this???) 2 American girls are on a road trip through Europe. In Germany they end up with a broken car in the woods. They search for help and find an isolated villa. The next day they awake to find themselves trapped in a terrifying make shift basement hospital along with a Japanese man. A German man identifies himself as a retired surgeon specializing in separating Siamese twins....He plans to be the first person to connect people via their gastric system...'the human centipede'! it is like a dream come true! caption: psssssssssst! Did you hear that??? No! Can you hear me now??? mfmpfttttttttttt....
Body: It has been a while, but John Burdett's book, Bangkok Tattoo is an intense, wonderful story about Yakuza, debt ( and an interesting way of debt collection ), tattoos, Bangkok strip joints,... oh, and a take on applied Buddhism by the main character, a Detective on the Bangkok police force..I think a flim is in the works for one of the books. All the books are great and while they don't have to be read chronologically, they probably should be ( I think that Bangkok Tattoo is the 2nd ).
Are you ( I hope ) a Russian? or if not, at least a young lady from the Eastern Bloc? Do you own at least one pair of cute ( and clean ) Pretty Pink Panties? If our relationship blossoms and becomes all that I think it capable of, would you send me Naked Pictures of you ( only you please, at least for now...)? What is your favorite Adult Beverage? Body: Rizzo, I do not know how you do it, but you consistently find the films on Spout, that do not show up for me. I wonder if it is because I am using Google Chrome browser??? Thanks so much good sir! By the way, I found it on Netflix, and it is not as good as I hoped it would be, although, it is well worth a look. I believe it was mentioned in the special features on the Eastern Promises disk, a book was mentioned too, which is on Amazon ( the title escapes me at the moment ). What I found extremely interesting, is that the various symbols have meaning and a history and that originally a person had to 'earn' the tattoo, it was part of the 'cred', now, at least the film brought out, specific, very status worthy tattoos are simply purchased. Also interesting, but too little time spent on them, the Womens' tattoos. Please see it and let me know what you think. I have to do some research on the Yakuza tattoos. thanks again for finding it for me. puhn
Body: A History of Violence The good Dr_Gor! I think that you will like this film quite a bit, but please read the graphic novel from which this film was very loosely based ( I checked out of the public library here in town ). Don't wish to spoil things...but here are some thoughts: After hearing about the film, I found the graphic novel and read that before seeing the film. I am big fan of Cronenberg's work ( disappointed in Eastern Promises though), the graphic novel fits right in thematically and with what I see as his protrayal of gruesomeness. It was interesting to see that as the review above pointed out, the film seemed to focus more of the impact of violence rather than the scenes of violence ( there are very unsettling scenes, but not as many as I would imagine ). The real hard parts of the graphic novel were left out. Make sure you watch the special features, Cronenberg explains quite a bit of why he shot the film that way and what he intended to show I could see this being filmed by David Fincher in the style of Se7en and being closer in feel to the graphic novel. enjoy! puhn
Body: Alix Lambert's: The Mark of Cain (2007) Not that great, but worth a look for both the tatoos, their evolution, meaning, and today, it seems meaninglessness in the Russian Prison System. Here is a bit from NetFlix ( makes the film sound much more grim than it is, the interviews with the various inmates, male and female, are great ): 'Exploring the violent world inside Russia's brutal prison system, filmmaker Alix Lambert's intensely gritty documentary examines how tattoos play a role in marking the status of the most hard-core prisoners. With jails so overcrowded that inmates must decide who will stand while others sleep, a well-defined hierarchy has developed where rank is determined by details of crimes committed and amount of time served.'
I continue to return to your first statement above, because Haneke speaks about it; foretelling what is come explicitly, then asking 'do you really want to see this???; well then, 'ok', here it comes, exactly as I told you it would be'...So why does he make the films? He seems to say; 'Don't watch them, you will be disturbed; if you do watch them, there is something wrong with you.' I keep spinning around with that thought and getting stuck: it seems to say 'I will make a film in which I will telegraph what will show you next; what I show you will not be pretty; in fact, I don't want you to watch it, but I will show it, because you watch it, and with that, you are complicit in what I show you.'??? I believe it was in the interview included with the Benny's Video, that he said that his films are primarily about Guilt. Guilt in/with what? here is a link that I found while trying to find something to help me with this post ( I still cannot put things together; I can tell you that contrary to many films, I will not watch Funny Games again; I love the film, but right now, I can not go through the viewing again ): http://archive.sensesofcinema.com/contents/directors/03/haneke.html
Body: I finished watching Benny's Video (1992 ) last evening. I suggest seeing it. I found the film extremely interesting in that it had as Benny, Arno Frisch and as Benny's Father, Ulrich Muhe. You will note that in Funny Games (1997) Arno Frisch is Paul, the fellow sort of running the 'games' and Ulrich Muhe is the Husband (Georg ) terrorized. I enjoyed that sense that Benny, grown now, 5 years, could quite easily have turned into Paul and the odd circumstance where Paul happens into Georg and his new Family. The games then begin. I watched the brief interview with Michael Haneke that came with Benny's ( I recently saw the 7th Continent with another brief interview; the interview portions seemed to be set up concurrently, perhaps at some screening of each of his films and had Michael Haneke speaking about the individual film; there is one included with Funny Games too ) there was no mention of the use of these two Actors in 2 films and whether Haneke purposefully chose them and saw any continuity between the 2 films. He did speak of the 7th Continent, Benny's Video, and 71 Fragements as constituting a trilogy. I also found it interesting that, although Haneke wrote the script, he could not say positively when viewing certain scenes within the film, just what Benny's motivations/frame of mind were/was; whether duplicitous, cynical, or truthful. it might be interesting, if you have not seen Funny Games yet, to see Benny's Video first.
