If you are a member of this group, you love everything about the Super Bowl of movies, especially the movies themselves! Group Name: Movies we do not want to see - Try to convince us to see these movies!
Group Description: Want to be a member? Send me a message with a list of at least 5 movies that you do not want to see.

There are many movies that I do not want to see. I'm not sure if its right of me to decide never to see a movie without seeing it. You know...like when a kid says they hate mushrooms even though they admit never trying them. So maybe this is a good spot for people to display movies they don't think they want to see, and see if anyone can convince us to try them out.
Body: As a native Californian, I'd have to go with the very cheesy "Earthquake" from 1974. Bad movie, but large earthquakes can and will happen out here. Just glad it had Los Angeles destroyed and not San Francisco. For more ridiculous ways to destroy LA (my Northern California bia is coming out), there's always the very ridiculous "Volcano" with Tommy Lee Jones. Sorry, I wasn't able to link either movie for some reason.
Body:
I have a thing for Molly Shannon and went insane over Year of the Dog when it came out. Just a great bizarre comedy with the cutest dog in the world that almost made me forget that I don't really care for dogs.
I loved Year of the Dog too. But I am an animal lover, so it really affected me and left me very sad for a couple days after - I appreciated the comedy, but I also found it a little heartbreaking. And just to add some more dog movies, how come they don't make Cop/Dog movies anymore, like Turner & Hooch and K-9? Oh yeah... never mind.
Body:
Well since probably my favorite film focusing solely on revenge was mentioned (She-Devil), I'm gonna have to go ahead and list those that pale in comparison. Jaws: The Revenge - The first Jaws is incredible, but not really about revenge. The fourth installment, with revenge blatantly placed in the title, is a great little B-movie that increased my fear of sharks and has made me vow to myself to never get on a floatation device that gets dragged behind a boat: cause you know great white sharks love that shit. I was recently able to see Machine Girl which was insanely gory and loaded with laughs. Premise: a young school girl gets revenge by attaching a Gatling gun to her amputated forearm and killing the bullies that picked on her and her brother. A Nightmare on Elm Street is more or less a revenge flick about Freddy killing the kids of those who killed him. Carrie gave mousy nerds in high school hope of becoming telekinetic and getting revenge on all those snot nosed cheerleaders and jocks. Death Becomes Her is all about revenge between two woman that continues throughout their entire lives. Dick presupposes that Deepthroat was just getting revenge on Nixon. Election is yet another meditation on revenge set in high school. Pick Flick or suffer the wrath of Reese Witherspoon! Friday the 13th. No explanation needed. Gladiator Maximus is all up on getting revenge. Hackers spends half the film getting revenge on those that dare to mess with computer nerds and their porn. Hard Candy was a very twisted revenge thriller. Jawbreaker and Mean Girls focus on big breasted teens plotting each others demise. Overboard has a lowly carpenter getting revenge on a bitchy debutante by surreptitiously making her into his wife and the father of his children when she gets amnesia. Rushmore has fantastic moments of revenge between Max and Mr. Bloom. The "Non-Fiction" part of Storytelling has a great bit of revenge at the end. The First Wives Club is a guilty pleasure about scorned ex-wives getting revenge on their husbands that left them for younger women. The Incredibles centers around Syndrome getting revenge on super-heroes. What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? is some classic screen legend revenge. Lastly, Wild Things. Great B-movie with acts of revenge and lesbian trysts around every corner.
I see your Jaws: The Revenge, Mercurial, and raise you one Revenge of the Nerds. I'd also like to throw Heathers into the mix of teenage revenge movies, with very dark consequences.
Body: Some that come to mind that were based entirely on revenge are She-Devil, which I thought better than I expected it would be, and Ruthless People. The 1980s seemed to be good times for the revenge business. I'm sure a lot of the old hard-boiled film noirs could essentially be about revenge as well.
Body: This is one of those movies that I found aggravating as well. I knew a little about it before going in, but it still seemed like there would be more impact with the horror of the situation if one actually identified with Sgt. Howie. However, I just couldn't stand him - so arrogant, so conservative, so blind! I really found myself identifying with the islanders. Early on in the film I was chanting "burn him up" just hoping they'd kill him. Of course, maybe it's my San Francisco upbringing with hippie parents that causes me to identify more with the locals! Doves do a nice cover of "Willow's Song" though.
Body:

Player Piano, because it's not hard-core science fiction, could translate easily to a movie. It's so dated now, so I'd like to see it actually set in a dystopian alternate version of the early '50s - keeping the gender, race, and religion inequality of the times, a la Mad Men.
I haven't read Player Piano, but I like your idea. Are there any sci-fi movies that take place in dystopian pasts? Maybe there are a ton, but I can't think of any. The 1984 with John Hurt is the closest thing I can think of, but that was released in 1984.
Brave New World would be a good one - Vonnegut was inspired by that when he wrote Player Piano (which I believe was his first novel). Although, Brave New World is supposed to set in a distant future (rather than a near future, like Player Piano), so it might be fun to set it in a distant future with that 1930s perspective of what that would look like (like a non-sucky Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow). Farenheit 451, also written in the '50s, might be fun as a dystopian alternate past. But again, these are easier to imagine because they are soft science fiction. Vonnegut's more "hard" science fiction is a bit more challenging to bring to film I think. Bradbury tends to translate well.
