If you are a member of this group, you love everything about the Super Bowl of movies, especially the movies themselves! Group Name: Movies we do not want to see - Try to convince us to see these movies!
Group Description: Want to be a member? Send me a message with a list of at least 5 movies that you do not want to see.

There are many movies that I do not want to see. I'm not sure if its right of me to decide never to see a movie without seeing it. You know...like when a kid says they hate mushrooms even though they admit never trying them. So maybe this is a good spot for people to display movies they don't think they want to see, and see if anyone can convince us to try them out.
I'm currently studying Global warming and climate changes in an enviromental science: Global Science Issues and if it wasn't for this class, I wouldn't be as aware of the problems that are going on in our eco-systems. If it wasn't for this class, I wouldn't of watched this film (it was on a list for credit). I more than believe global warming is real. I honestly think I've seen enough evidence to prove that things are changing...they are changing fast and they are changing for the worse. The facts given in the beginning in the film were all things I had heard countless times in articles and research studies I'd used in class. The events that occur in this film, may be an over extention of the truth (I don't believe that much could happen in such a short time, but I believe it will happen over time)...But honestly, I don't think anything has terrfied me as much as the idea of things like this actually happening. The film was honestly in most cases great. I honestly loved the effects, i love what was taught and what was "learned", but what honestly annoyed me was the fact the whole film pretty much revolved around One man and his son. I mean yes, there were many times when the whole united states was involved, there were times when other nations were involved, but honestly the whole David Quaid - Jake Gyllenhall I'm going to walk from DC to New York to save you deal, was just unneccissary. I think there should of been more focus on the people of America, The people of europe, the people of asia...the people of the northern hemisphere...rather than just one man and his one son. This was about a WORLD CRISIS and the most important thing it seemed was the story of one man risking it all to save his son. I mean honestly, don't get me wrong. There have been quite a few risk it all-for-one type films that have been worth watching. But honestly, this shouldn't of been one of them. The focus of the film should of been more on the people [of the united states] as a whole, the people of the world as a whole ...I would of loved to of seen more of britain, more of europe, more of Asia survive than was shown...It seemed as though, they played it off as everyone in the northern hemisphere aside from half of america and Mexico were too unprepared to survive. That there were no survivors and they all froze to death. The film made these nations seem, as though they would of all together been unable to survive something like this...and only americans could previal. Then again, that's how most patrotic films go. Honestly, I give this film a 4 out of 5.
Body:
Yay! I know one! You're thinking of All Summer In A Day, an adaptation of a Ray Bradbury short story. It was adapted for television in 1982, and then again for the Ray Bradbury Theatre television series. The kids were on Venus, in an unspecified future, where the sun only comes out for one hour every seven years. None of the kids in class remember the sun, and only half believe in it, so in a fit of childish cruelty they lock up a young girl who recently immigrated from Earth. And then the sun comes out, and they forget about her until the rain starts again. Spout doesn't list the film, but here's the IMDB page , and the Wikipedia page. It doesn't appear to be on video or DVD anywhere, although you can purchase the Ray Bradbury Theatre.
Awe thank you so much! The film just came out of nowhere the other day in my head, and i couldn't figure out what it was. :] i didn't think anyone would get it that fast. and yes, that is the one. thank you.
Body: There was this film I saw for a high school class that nobody I ask, seems to recall. It was filmed in about the sixties (I'm pretty sure of it), and it must of been set somewhat in the future or on another planet quite simular to earth. Either there was something funky with the location of the planet or it was the weather, but the sun was only came out every Four (or maybe more) years or so for a few hours. There were these kids playing out at recess, and there was this one that was more excited than the rest of them to see the sun because they were the only one that remembered what it had looked like... Long story short, he was (atleast, I think it was a he) locked in a closet inside the school and completely missed the viewing of the sun and disconinutation of rainfall. Yes! it was also very rainy wherever, they were located. can't remember what it was...the style was very RED BALOON-ESQUE. Anyone know?
Body: It was the cover that caught me at first. Browsing Hollywood Video for something new. Something I hadn't seen before and on the new release shelf there it was, two copies of this film next to eight hundred copies of some big huge blockbuster (I can't remember what it was at the time, but i do recall it looked very unappealing). It was the first time I had ever grabbed a movie off the shelf without even reading the synopsis. I just said "this one" and checked out. It sat in my room a few days before I watched it, at night might I add. On my small 13 or so inch television with headphones plugged in. I wasn't aware at the time what I was getting into. And there it was. Fourteen year-old Hayley and 30-some year old Jeff. I'd seen these relationships before. I'd been in one of these relationships before, and I was honestly, digusted. A lot of the times I honestly, don't have a problem with Age differences when it comes to 20-some year olds or older, but older guys with a 14, 15, 16 year old girl "fetish" I guess you can say is utterly...ugh, I don't even want to put it to words. I kept thinking "What are you doing?" "what are you doing" Get out of there. Get out of there, don't you see this isn't right? Both of you."And then things started to turn around. Although, she may of actually been a chosen "vicitim" it was him in the end being terrorized. It had my heart racing and at times, I even felt incredibly sympathetic for Jeff. It had me on edge from the moment they met to the moment they "parted" The filming was spectacular. the acting was incredible. Honestly, I'm glad I saw this before Juno, though I liked the film, I do think this is Ellen Page's better performance. She is quite an amazing young actress. rating 5 out of 5. [though i do think i should re-watch and re-review]
Body: Honestly, It's one of those films that I "hate to love" i guess I can say. It honestly gets me sick everytime i watch it (I guess it's because I relate to Sarah and her son Harry so well), but it's also one of those films that I can't help but watch over and over again. The way it was put together was outstanding, the charcters are so powerful, & Mansell's music is also very powerful. How the film all starts with each character's connection with Harry and then braches off into their own horrible mishaps is just --- i don't know how to explain it. I love how it's different from most "storylines" where everyone comes together. In this case everyone breaks apart. It's frightening, it's sickening, disgusting, and yet so relateable. I give it a 4 out of 5.
Body: Try the music from STAY or anything Clint Mansell (especially the fountain). I'm love the ambient genre, and i'd love to listen to some of the things you mentioned. I'll let you know what i come up with, if i find anything else.
I'm interested in Soundtracks in how they elevate a film, but also as pieces of music on their own. I like the ambience of a movie score; sometimes it can take over like the soundtrack of whatever you're doing at the time. I like to listen to them when I write. Love these: 1. Tous les Matins du Monde (Jordie Savall playing the Viola da Gamba) 2. The Piano and Carrington and probably other Michael Nyman scores 3. Cliff Martindale's score for Solaris (Soderbergh's). Minimalist but still emotionally charged... I'm a huge Philip Glass fan and own all of his soundtracks, but I'd have to say my three favorites are: 1. The Secret Agent (directed by Christopher Hampton) 2. Candyman (honestly, I've never seen this horror film, and there's a long story about Glass's involvement that I won't go into, but the eerie toy piano combined with Glass's usual stuff carries itself well). 3. Of all the "Qatsi" film, I like the score for Naqoyqatsi best, probably because Yo-yo Ma plays on it. There are probably more....
Body: I read part of the book once back in middle school and became rather bored. I figured the movie would be just the same but in a group of friends 2 out of 3 majority ruled for the film. So I went to please them. Although I consider myself a rather large Star Wars Fanatic, I never cared for Hayden Christensen and his acting career (especially in Star Wars Episode 3: revenge of the sith. But that's another story for a later time). Overall I was not surprised at how my final reaction was to the movie. It sucked. Hands-down. The only parts I really did enjoy was the idea of Jumping (hey, admit it'd be kind of cool to have the power) and well I guess the locations (But those weren't even half as interesting as I would of hoped). I mean seriously, there could of been way better shots and more locations. What bothers me also was WHY WAS ROME the number one choice and not PARIS. I think france would of been a better choice for -- ooh. DO NOT READ AFTER THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS. France would of been a better choice to of taken his stupid little girlfriend, considering it seemed to connect more to the tour de efiel snow globe he gave her. But whatever, the whole romance in the film could of been excluded entirely. I hated his "girl friend" whatever the hell her name was. The way she responded when he first came back to town, "Oh long time no see." PSHT. If I we're here I would of been all over him even if I knew he was already alive. Body: Favorite Miyazaki film [I've seen] hands down. Again I'm not entirely big on the Anime sub-genre but honestly I fell in love with this one instantly. The many main characters in this film are all very strong and hold strong to their beliefs & their desires. I think this is one of the films that got me very enviromentally aware at such a young age.Powerful, beautiful, I cant help but watch it again and again.5 out of 5
Body: I fell out of the Anime fad almost as quickly as I dove into it, and now 95% of the time refuse to see anything "Anime" (it's not the art, honestly, I really like the style and think alot of work is put into it...It's the Fandom-and-animated series that get to me). I was worried at first to of seen Disney getting together with the anime, i thought that the "trend" had become even bigger and soon everything was going to be like Naruto. But after I heard it was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, I honestly calmed down and was quite excited to see how it turned out. I more than enjoyed Princess Mononoke and a couple of his other films, never once before had he disapointed me. And Spirited away wound up being one of the best Disney/Miyazaki films I had seen in quite a long time. It was very Alice in wonderland like but more heart-touching. I became quite attatched to little Chihiro and there were quite a few scenes that i felt i could relate to. I'll admit right now I almost cried in the end. The animation was outstanding, and the English Dubs actually fit well with the characters. Overall, I give 5 out of 5.
Body: I feel bad being quite a bit younger than most people in this thread. but the top five movies that scared me as a kid: -The FIRST Scream. God, for years, i hated walking alone or sleeping alone. I figured some guy in a mask was out to stab me. I still can't stay anywhere near open windows/ glass doors. -THIRTEEN GHOST. honestly, after watching it over now, it's not as terrifying as i thought it was. But as a kid (and sometimes still now), i was a big ghost beleiver. There was something about those spirits and those ghost eeeh.. -The Abyss. To this day i can never finish it honestly. I don't know what it is about the film but everytime i try and put it on it gives me the eebie jeebies and i get incredibly sick. Part of me thinks it might be the fact my father's a submariner. -the FIRST FRIDAY THE 13TH this only semi-counts. I was maybe 14 at the time when i saw this and it honestly didnt scare me, atleast not until the end. It's the only film that i KNOW made me scream ....and it was the scene where the girl is in the riverboat and thinks everything is okay and than BAM JASON VHOREHEES. and lastly: This wasn't actually a film but a television show in the eighties/nineties called GHOSTWRITER. There was this 2-3 part episode about this purple bubblegum monster that would....eat kids. god, i couldnt sleep for ages.
Body: I probably would of liked it more if i hadnt read the comic (manga) series first. Honestly, after blasting through the six or so 200+ page graphic novels i was completely excited to watch the film. But it wound up being a huge dissapointment and so much was left out. It's been atleast 5 years since i read or watched either, and i'm interested in reading + watching both again, to write a better revivew. But trust me, i do recall being very displeased and unsatisfied with it's comparison to the original medium. 1 of 5 stars.
