If you are a member of this group, you love everything about the Super Bowl of movies, especially the movies themselves! Group Name: Movies we do not want to see - Try to convince us to see these movies!
Group Description: Want to be a member? Send me a message with a list of at least 5 movies that you do not want to see.

There are many movies that I do not want to see. I'm not sure if its right of me to decide never to see a movie without seeing it. You know...like when a kid says they hate mushrooms even though they admit never trying them. So maybe this is a good spot for people to display movies they don't think they want to see, and see if anyone can convince us to try them out.
There were a few things that Grant did that I have lost any belief in anything he says now, but otherwise, it is very cool and fun. I love hearing the history. I am having a few friends over for their LIVE show on Halloween night. They set up the cameras live and have people watch it, if anyone sees anything, they hit the panic button on the computer and tell them what they saw. IT's a lot of fun. They usually have a guest celebrity go with them, a couple of years in a row they had some wrestlers, one year, one of the big bad wrestlers was screaming like a little girl and just took off running. It was pretty hilarious. Anyway, it's fun to watch.
] Who exactly are the "Ghost Hunters"??
Body: That is really wild Greg, How strange...if she had been naked walking towards you I would think that would have been your mind creating her...hehehe, but since she had clothes on, that is really weird. I wonder if someone was giving you a message that everything is going to be alright. I bet when you turned around you just about fell over. Very interesting. I'm glad you are feeling better, let us know if your close to death experience opened up the flood gates and you start having more strange things happen like that.
Just in time for Halloween... It has been several years since I've had anything truly unexplainable or blatantly paranormal happen to me, but just last week something happened that I have absolutely no explanation for. I am still kind of reeling from this and trying to figure it out. Word for word this is all true EXACTLY as it happened... Last Wednesday morning I woke up feeling like I was getting sick... you know the feeling, the burning sensation in the back of your sinuses and throat that tell you that a cold or the flu is coming on... I went to work and as the day progressed I found I was getting sicker by the minute. By 10:00 am I was too sick too go on so I left work and by the time I got home I was REALLY sick. I don't know if it was H1N1 or just a REALLY bad cold but I was in bad shape. The next day, Thursday, I was basically too sick to get out of bed except to go to the bathroom and get some water. At times I thought I was going to die and at times I wished I WOULD die just so I wouldn't be sick anymore... I'm sure you have all been there... It was pretty bad. The next day, Friday, I felt a little better and by Friday afternoon I felt good enough to get dressed and go to the store for some cold medicine and groceries and stuff. I drove to the King Soopers down the street at 2:30 in the afternoon. It was busy as always but not overly crowded and I was able to park fairly close to the door. As soon as I got out of my car and began walking towards the door I saw a VERY cute and VERY young teenage blonde girl walking straight up to me with a BIG smile and she said "Hi! How are you?" ... Never one to to rude to a female I said "I'm allright." ... And she said "ALRIGHT!". And then she stuck her hand in the air and said "Can you give me a 'high-five'?" . I did this and then she said "Allright!" and continued on her way past me. I took about two steps and then turned around to have another look (I'm a dirty old man) and she was GONE! There was NOBODY there! She did NOT get into a car or anything like that... she was just GONE! I have never seen this girl before in my life (I would have remembered) and she looked as real to me as any person I have ever seen. I felt her hand when we did the "high-five" ... it was a VERY light touch, almost like a feather but it was real enough. I have absolutely NO explanation for this. I do have a theory that involves the idea that I felt I was close to death... But I just don't know... I am still sick but getting better. Happy Halloween! < GOR >
Body: Sorry everyone, work has been so horribly busy that I’ve been exhausted when I get home and then my singing practices, whew. So I wanted to report on my class – UNFORTUNATELY, they canceled the American Horror movie class because of lack of attendance. I really think he needed to promote it better because I just found it by chance. So I was disappointed about that. But thank god, my Schlock Cinema class is still going strong. I absolutely LOVE this class. The teacher is such a character; he has actually been in a few bad B movies back in the 60s and 70s (he is a lawyer by trade) but just has a passion for all movies. He teaches the class wearing a Professor’s cap and gown and has met a lot of famous people and has some really great stories to tell. Our first movie we saw last week was called Man in the Attic with Jack Palance and Frances Bavier (Aunt Bea in Andy Griffith) in it. It was a lot like the Lodger (the old silent movie that Alfred Hitchcock directed). The premise of the movie was about Jack the Ripper and how everyone was a suspect. We all thought this movie was too good to be a bad B movie. It was made in 1953 and the scenery and the acting were very good. I thought Jack Palance did a lot of OVER acting but all in all, it wasn’t too bad. It all started when Jack Palance came to the door to lease a room from an older couple who were having some money problems. After he decides to move in he goes into the room and starts turning all the pictures of women who are actresses around to the wall so he won’t have to see them (Aunt Bea thinks this is very odd) then that is also when the woman noticed the man carrying a black bag and heard that a man had been spotted carrying a black bag after the murder of one of the Prostitutes. She then starts to suspect him but her husband tells her she’s being an old snoop and to mind her own business. Then her niece comes to live with them, who is, of course, a beautiful actress which he falls in love with and decides maybe all actresses aren’t so bad. He tells the story of his mother who was an actress who then turned into a prostitute…he was a very troubled child. Anyway, trouble ensues after that when a young detective in Scotland Yard also falls for the beautiful actress. What Professor Fred told us is how difficult “Aunt Bea” was to work with. Even Andy Griffith and Don Knox both said she was cold, uncaring and just didn’t like people very much (a little different from her on-camera persona). Last night we watched an EXCRUTIATINGLY BAD movie called War of the Robots by Alfonso Brescia. It was made in 1978 around the time that Star Wars came out (but this was NO StarWars). I think he also directed some of those old Spaghetti Westerns so in the movie there were a lot of over the top close-ups. Antonio Sabato also starred in it (his son really looks a lot like him but without the years of smoking and wear and tear on his face). I just don’t know what to say about it. First there was a kidnapping of a scientist and his “beautiful” assistant (she looked a LOT like Jeannie, same eye makeup and hairstyle) by these alien men in gold suits and kind of page-boy blond haircuts (think Children of the Damned all grown up). Then a group of soldiers? Go to rescue them, mostly because the captain (Antonio) was having an affair with the Assistant, although one of his crew members named Julie (who looked a lot of Ziggy Stardust) was in love with him, everyone of the crew would always comment on it but the captain was blinded by Jeannie. Anyway, it was one battle after another, the editing was horrible, the camera man kept shaking the camera, some of the dubbed voices were hilarious, especially this one guy that was suppose to be from Texas. There was treachery, murder, mayhem and it felt like it was 4 hours long. When we thought it was ending we would all be so relieved but then another friggin battle would happen (it was only 93 minutes long but it felt a lot longer). Anyway, I would NOT recommend this movie to anyone. There were some parts in it where it was sooooooooooo bad that it is good, but mostly it was just boring and bad. Next week we are going to see Door to Door Maniacs with Johnny Cash in it. Now that is supposed to be HORRIBLY bad because Johnny Cash cannot act. It’s also supposed to be very grim and depressing. Hopefully it will be so bad we can laugh at it.
I just wanted to let you know that I am taking two different classes in October and half of November. One is called Schlock Cinema which is going back to watch B rated movies and discussing what was happening at that time in history for the movie to be made. The other class I am taking is American Horror Movie and how it corrilates to history. So I will be watching movies and also learning something on every Tuesday and Thursday night next month and part of November. Yes, I really didn't think it through when I signed up for both classes, but it just sounded like something I would really like, 2 times a week might be a little much, though. I will try to post what I watch and what I learned, someone might find it interesting.
Body: I will be taking one at Shoreline Community College and the other at North Seattle Community College. Shoreline Com College is really close to my apartment but North Seattle is still close but in traffic it will be challenging to get there on time. I was actually looking for an art class and an exercise class but found these two. I don't think I'll get much exercise in but it will be fun.

That's sweet! I keep thinking I'd love to take some film classes! Especially in Chicago, there are lots of opportunities. I guess I was just lazy to never sign up, and now I'm just broke. But where are you taking these classes at?
Body: Those were fun and not-so-bad movies. Now the Legend of Boggy Creek 2 was pretty awful. I think it was so awful that MST 3000 did their little commentary on it. There are some pretty interesting and cool documentaries and TV shows on Bigfoot. I think Destination Truth might have gone on a couple of quests to see what they could find. It is amazing at how many eyewitnesses there are. There is this extremely tiny paranormal museum in Seattle with a whole book-case dedicated to big foot w/pictures and plaster castings of Big Feet, stories from eyewitness accounts. IT's kind of cool. I don't know how I feel. I do believe there are probably millions of creatures that are allusive that humans have not documented yet. BUT I wish someone would find a skeleton of one. My friend says they probably have some intelligence and if one of their own dies, the others would take the body to a secret burial chamber in a cave somewhere. It is fascinating and I love cryptozoology.

The Legend of Boggy Creek (1972) is a "semi-documentary" about another Southern ape-like creature.
This "re-enactment of a true story" is actually a very good and scary movie about a murderous "ape-like" creature roaming the swamps of Arkansas. The director of this movie, Charles Pierce, also directed another "semi-documentary" in 1976 called The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976) . This is a great movie that is "based on a true story" about a hooded serial killer in the town of Texarkana, Arkansas in the 1940's. The look of the killer in this movie was "borrowed" for the look of "Jason" in "Friday the 13th: Part II" ... Starring the great Ben Johnson and Andrew Prine and featuring a GEM of a performance by Dawn Wells (yes, THAT Dawn Wells) as a victim, this is actually a very good movie! < GOR >
Body: I just wanted to let you know that I am taking two different classes in October and half of November.
Body: Thanks Gor for letting me know (batting my eyelashes sweetly). I saw on the previews that they found her and wrapped her up in a blanket but I didn't know if she lived or not. That's very interesting, I wonder if there was an outcry after the first one because she died so he decided to make her live in this one...or it almost seems that his conscience got the best of him, since this was one of his first films, and somehow he wanted to make it right...hmmmm. The penis chomping scene was great, I bet every guy in the theater watching it back then had to grimace. hee hee. It does make me wonder in this day and age where MOST horror movies usually have very unhappy endings (especially all the zombie movies) why he did let her live. Personally, I like happy endings. I wish Rhodes wouldn't have been eaten, but then we wouldn't had his famous last lines of CHOKE on it.. But with a lot of movies now, I expect it to have a twist or sad ending, so it's not so shocking for me anymore. You know, honestly, I didn't think the first one was that brutal, now in my mind it was brutal but on the screen they really didn't show that much, but of course, you knew what was happening. It was nothing like, I Spit on Your Grave. Now that was pretty brutal in so many aspects.
Body: It looks pretty funny. I think it would be a great date movie, of course in Seattle it wouldn't because most men out this way don't like scary or violent movies. lol. Anyway, I like Woody Harrelson's character. That would be a fun way to celebrate your birthday.

Is a new movie coming out on October 2nd. It looks really funny (some of you may think it's really stupid, but I also like all the Scary Movie movies so I'm sure I'll like this). Anyway, if you get a chance, visit the site: www.zombieland.com Something fun before Halloween!
Wow, June! That looks pretty cool! And October 2nd is my birthday so I might just treat myself to a present on that day... < GOR >
Body: Yes, I have to say it was a fun movie and my hat is off to the woman who was naked for about 15 minutes running in heels and screaming. It had to be cold after a while. I guess when people said they wanted nudity in this one, they decided to keep it on screen for quite a while. SO Gor, in the remake of Last House on the Left, does the girl die in this one? From the previews it looks like she is barely alive but IS alive. You can put a big SPOILER alert on it, but I just wanted to know how they ended this one.
OK. The Doctor has been catching up on his 'recent' remakes... I have recently watched Friday the 13th , Last House on the Left and My Bloody Valentine . The latter was my favorite of the three. A very good horror/action film with brutal murders galore from the opening minutes. A few minutes of some very nice, un-ashamed nudity only add to the many charms of this one. They bumped up the gore and violence quotient quite a bit in this one, making it very fun to watch. For sentimental reasons, I still think the original is a better movie... < GOR >
Body: I was just going to say that after all ghost hunts I've been on as a guest of someone, I have finally settled down and have decided to become a member of the Washington State Ghost Society (no you don't have to be a ghost to join the group). Anyway, some really nice people in there and I have a feeling they might have thought that I was just going there for "thrills" until they heard of all the ghost hunting equipment I had, that was pretty funny. So, if anything cool happens, I will come back to this Discussion and let you know. I opted out of the next investigation which was going to be outside of Goldbar, WA in a trail in the woods, at night with rocky hills and there are BEARS and cougars in that area (lions and tigers and bears, oh my!). So, I won't be making an appearance at that investigation. Yes, I am too girly to be in the woods to be a bear's evening snack. The next one after that is an apartment complex in Pioneer Square (the original downtown Seattle) that was built in the turn of the century. So I will be at that one. So, just thought I would share and hopefully I'll get some concrete evidence to share. ;-) June
Body: I still have not seen Fulci's City of the Living Dead. Netflix said it isn't availiable. I think I'm just going to see where I can buy it. It has been a while since I visited your site Robert, so it's really cool to see you doing this. This is really awesome!! June

Ok. Robert and I have discussed this and we both decided that the only way to do this properly is in alphabetical order and one movie at a time. It might take some time this way but hopefuly it will lead to some interesting conversations along the way...
Those two movies referenced above were recomended by me as some examples of the NASTIEST GORE movies ever made and sort of a "preview of coming attractions" for this discussion... NOW we will let the games begin with Robert's official listings...
Body: I just watched The Thing again a couple of week ago, you are right about Kurt Russell, I think he is still hot. I also just watched Big Trouble in Little China with him a couple of days ago, drool is so right. A-hem, anyway, I never did watch the remake of Day of the Dead, I might get it on Netflix later on. I actually did like the Dawn of the Dead Remake (little baby zombies always make me giggle, until their heads are blown off, that is). I did freak a bit when the zombies were fast, that was my first reaction, HEY zombies are suppose to move slow and never stop, they just keep coming to get you and even though they move 1/2 mile an hour when there is a group of them, they form a wall where you can't run away from them and then you are doomed, like poor Rhodes found out as he screamed Choke on them! But I did think it was a lot more exciting with them being fast, I had a lot more angst when they were running after people. whew. I agree with you on Orphan, it looked like it could have been creepy in several parts and the little girl was very creepy looking, but in my mind I was thinking it was just another BAD SEED or GOOD SON movie. District 9 looks like it might be a good action movie, I haven't read any reviews about it though, I can't think of any others right now.
I've already said that I hated The Midnight Meat Train. But there are some movies that I don't hate. Trust me. If you have read some of past discussions you will find that I LOVE John Carpenter's The Thing starring the drool-tastic Kurt Russell. However, now I'm going to talk about some movies I've seen that were really dumb. And some other previews that just looked dumb. Here we go. I recently watched the Day of the Dead remake. Very disappointing, but quirky at the same time. Ving Rhames returns as Captain Rhodes (sound familiar?), a military dude who has no relationship to Rhames' character in the Dawn of the Dead remake. SPOILERS AHEAD. He get his face eaten, as well as the other black kid, Nick Cannon, who, by the way, is freaking married to freaking Mariah Carey for crap's sake. But he doesn't get eaten 'til the end or so. I was sad that he got eaten but I got over it. Mina Suvari, the hot blonde from American Beauty, is the main character and she has a stupid horny brother who is worthless but lives. Damn the luck. Stark Sands, some guy I don't know but who is a big nerdy Private and kinda cute, gets bitten and turns into a horny, lusting-for-the-main-character zombie. Named Bud. Oh the agony. The other thing is that the zombies were fast. Again. And one crawls across a wall and a ceiling to get to some poor nurse. Just not the way a zombie is supposed to move. I can understand the fastness but they're not geckos. So, I didn't like it. It sucked. And the ending was gay. Another movie that just looks gay is Orphan. It seems to be quite similar to The Good Son which I thought was pretty okay. But, I've already seen it so why should I see Orphan? I don't know, but I sure won't if I can help it. Sorry for the rambling. What do you all think of the movies I've mentioned or any movie for that matter? Speak up!
Body: This may have a lot of spoilers, just a warning in case you haven't seen the movie and want to. I always call The Changeling my Goosebump movie. I love good old creepy ghost stories, those are my favorite. Sometimes I thought George C. Scott got a little boring in the movie, there were moments that the story lulled just a bit, but otherwise I thought he did a great job as a shell of a man that just wanted to live his life and write his music and get away from the world. I can see Ebert's point but the story of the movie was so good and strong that it overshadowed everything else. I don't think I agree with him that you didn't care if his character lived or died. I was hoping he would have a happy ending (not the massage parlor kind) because of the tragedy of losing his family, I even felt bad for him that he was reliving that pain and thinking that it was his daughter that was haunting him, blaming him for what happened (at least that's what I thought he was thinking), especially when he found the ball. My favorite moment is when he threw the ball into the water and came back into the house and a wet ball comes bouncing down the steps. I really got chills when they were listening to the recording, even just seeing the cobweb covered child's wheel chair was creepy. I just can't imagine an emotional man playing that part, what if Richard Burton played it, then it would be way over the top with emotion (I'm trying to think of other actors at that time but my mind is a tired blank right now). I think the character needed to be someone with little emotion, maybe a defeated man, there were times when he looked terrified, especially with the banging sounds. I never thought of the similarities before with Cobb and Scott, very insightful Rizzo, I can see what you mean though. They were definately following each other back and forth, Scott taking over some of his roles when he had other conflicts, etc., could you put Rod Steiger in there too? He was kind of the same type of character actor. I'm going to have to watch it again. I haven't seen it for a while.

June, I once remember you saying one of your favorite movies was The Changeling. Well, I actually just watched it last night!!! Super creepy! Very well directed. I ended up also reading Roger Ebert's review of the movie from back in 1980 when it first came out too http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19800402/REVIEWS/4020301/1023 What do you think about what he says about Scott's acting? I love Geroge C. Scott, but do you think he should have acted a little more afraid, or was the stoic thing the right choice? Does anyone else here feel like there's a connection between George C. Scott and Lee J. Cobb? First of all on the most superficial level, both of their names have three sylables and their middle initial. But they have both played Juror #3 in versions of 12 Angry Men, and they have both played Lt. Kinderman, Cobb in the Exorcist and Scott in The Excorcist III. Mind you, I have not seen Scott in either of these roles, but something about him just looks like Cobb. And The Changeling has that creepy 70s demonic movie feeling that The Exorcist does. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but watching this just made me think of it again.
Body: I've seen the trailer for it a few times and it looks like it's non-stop suspense and action. I think I will have to wait for that on DVD in case I need to Fast Forward through some parts but it looks really good, glad you liked it for the most part.
Hi horror group, I caught The Collector last night; I was shocked to have mostly really, really liked it. Apparently it was conceived as a Saw prequel, and the advertising pushes the writers' involvement in Saws 4-6. They did a decent enough job turning it into something different enough to stand on it's own. It spends enough time developing charcters and plot to get the viewer invested in the events, and sets everything within the film up well. I don't like the "torture porn" label, but since it seems to have taken, I'll use it here. If you've not been a fan of the genre, Collector will definitely not be for you; if you've come to at least be able to tolerate it, give this one a shot. I'll also note that Gary Tunnicliffe of some (all?) of the Hellraiser series does effects here, and that you can tell; I don't know if he designed the villain, but one or two set-ups & some torture gore are evocative of that work.
