Body: The winners are on page 2 of this discussion and on the Filmspotting podcast. Stay tuned for news about upcoming contests. ________________________ THE CLONE WARS movie kicks off a television series exploring George Lucas' "Star Wars Universe," and Lucas promises future TV series to follow. We started to think about how great it would be for PBS to explore the Star Wars Universe. Like Carl Sagan investigating giant asteroid worms, or Bill Moyers interviewing Yoda, or a 3-2-1 Contact about droids--the educational programming we really wanted to see as kids, like a Ken Burns documentary series on "The Force." Tell us your idea for a PBS show--or just any educational show--about something in the Star Wars Universe. The show we want to see the most will be our winner.
Body: The winners are discussed on page 6 of this thread and on the Filmspotting podcast. CAST BATMAN 3 The unfortunate passing of Heath Ledger made The Dark Knight an even bigger cliffhanger than it was meant to be. If the Joker's story isn't resolved, it'll be like if Han Solo had never been freed from carbonite. On the other hand, maybe there's another villain worthy of taking the spotlight after the Joker's turn in The Dark Knight. Pick a villain and an actor to play him. Write a brief letter to Christopher Nolan, convincing him your villain is worthy of being the Dark Knight's adversary in Batman 3. Some people are saying Johnny Depp would make a great Riddler, but is the Riddler a great villain? So choose a villain and an actor, and the most exciting pair wins. The hard working publicists at spout.com will try their darndest to get the winning choices in front of Christopher Nolan. No guarantees, but it's worth a shot, huh?
Body: How many actors can you name that have been in more than one film series trilogy (or greater)? I'll give the first and most obvious one: Harrison Ford was in The Star Wars trilogy and Indiana Jones film series, now consisting of 4 films.
Body: This is the first collaborative mad lib. I pulled a scene from a movie starring a bunch of feisty islanders. What we need to complete the scene: 1. Verb 2. Verb 3. Famous person 4. Noun 5. Noun 6. A person’s family role (i.e. mother, son, cousin, grandfather) 7. Adjective 8. Part of the body 9. Country in Europe 10. Supernatural being 11. Verb ending in -ing 12. Noun 13. Part of the body 14. Location 15. A name you would call somebody 16. Verb 17. Verb ending in -ing Let's try staying consecutive; in other words, check where we are in the series so we don't jump around or overlap. I think it'll be easiest if we only include the numbers we're completing. So let's say if (1) and (2) are complete, the next post would look like this: 3. L. Ron Hubbard When all the words have been provided, I'll plug them into the script and post it here. I'm excited to see how it turns out!
Body: In the year 2525 -- if man is still alive-- will people still be using the slang word "movie"? What will it be replaced with? Whatever it is, I bet it'll be as weird as imagining Taco Bell's restaurant monopoly in Demolition Man.
Body: This week, we're recasting The Princess Bride (1987). It's a classic that would be a travesty for some money hungry Hollywood exec to try and remake, which is exactly why we're imagining a remake. I hope a new cast comes out of this that makes me salivate for a remake, but I predict this will be an exercise in imagining how bad a remake of this movie could screw up.This is a FIlmspotting contest and a winner will be announced on the Filmspotting podcast April 18, 2008. Extra credit goes to anyone who casts Samuel L. Jackson and rewrites a classic Princess Bride quote just for him. Cary Elwes ... WestleyRobin Wright Penn ... Buttercup / The Princess BrideMandy Patinkin ... Inigo MontoyaChris Sarandon ... Prince HumperdinckChristopher Guest ... Count Tyrone Rugen Wallace Shawn ...
