Body: A great movie that doesn't get a lot of attention in Series 7: The Contenders. It came out during the height of reality shows like Survivor and was about a faux new television show in which seven unsuspecting people are picked by a lottery and only the last one standing gets their freedom. At the time, it seemed like an Americanized version of Battle Royale, but Series 7 focused more on the television aspect and just how ridiculous it was becoming. I know it's mushy and preachy, but I still love Pleasantville. Watching modern day kids trying to survive in a black white Leave It To Beaver like town; and it was when Reese Witherspoon was still in her slutty bad ass girl Freeway stage which is always hilarious to watch. Bolt fits the theme. A dog raised believing it is a super enhanced cyber puppy on a television show gets lost and must learn to live in the real world was decent enough. Hairspray was about a bunch of kids vying for a coveted spot on a local tv dance show. Halloween III: Season of the Witch revolved around kids putting on cursed masks and watching a television commercial that would kill them. Fun times. Galaxy Quest was about a group of washed up Strek Trek like actors that find themselves transported to a real intergalactic war and must try and imitate their faux television personas to survive. I'll have to watch it a dozen more times, but I'm fairly kinda sorta maybe almost certain that Inland Empire had something to do with television. Natural Born Killers was more or less an indictment of the horrors of television on our society. I didn't really care for The Nines because I thought it was a little too too; it was trying to convey something about losing ourselves in the false reality of television. Or maybe not, I don't know. Bamboozled is one of my favorite Spike Lee movies about a television executive that tries to get fired by programming a horrifically racist minstrel show but is shocked to learn that it becomes a sensational hit. Soapdish was a stupid fun look at all the ridiculous bitching and backstabbing that goes on behind the scenes of a daytime soap opera series. Edtv came out right after The Truman Show and was pretty much trying to say the same thing. The Cable Guy. Doesn't get the credit it deserves and is probably one of Jim Carrey's best performances. American Dreamz was just __________. I don't watch American Idol so maybe I wasn't cool enough to enjoy it. Stay Tuned was one of those movies from my childhood where most of the comedy went straight over my head. Something about a family getting sucked into a sadistic television and must survive all the twisted versions of popular shows at the time. Need to watch it again.

A Clockwork Orange - Alex DeLarge Again, sick and perverse but you're still rooting for the bastard. The Professional - Leon Minimalist. Botanist. Cold-blooded killer. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome - Max You thought he wasn't gonna help those aboriginal kids, didn't you! Natural Born Killers - Mickey & Mallory Knox Bring on the arguments, but I loved this cute little couple. Kill Bill - Beatrix Kiddo Trained assassin that shows (almost) no mercy. Great female anti-hero. Pitch Black - Riddick Great role for Vin Diesel. He barely spoke the entire film. Constantine - John Constantine Smoker. Sinner. Blasphemer. Suicidal. But still cool a pretty cool guy. Hellboy - Anung un Rama, The Beast of the Apocalypse Again, smoker, blasphemer, jerk. But really nice to pyrokinetics, cats and the occasional human baby. From Dusk Till Dawn - Seth Gecko Mass murderer. Kidnapper. Bank Robber. But we all still think he's badass. Even if it is George Clooney. Brick - Brenden Frye Loner. Plays rough with the ladies. Blackmailer. Smart little hard-boiled detective. Point of No Return - Maggie Hayward Druggie. Runaway. B*#$h. But really likable towards the end. The Fifth Element - Korben Dallas Complete a*&#@le but does good and gets the alien chick. The Crow - Eric Draven Goth freak vigilante revenant (?) serial killer. But the good kind. Fight Club - Tyler Durden Thief. Terrorist. Womanizer. Soap Maker. Made every straight man just a little gay with his abnormally perfect abdominal muscles. The Boondock Saints - Connor & Murphy McManus Blah. Blah. Murderers. Blah. Blah. Alcoholics. Blah. Blah. Inspirational Vigilantes. Sin City - Marv Brutish ogre with a soft spot for big breasted woman.

Body: Sorry I've been really under the weather and preoccupied so I've gotten behind on a lot of these threads. I just opened this one up however and was suprised at how few of the movies that immediately came to mind for me (other than my favorite, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) had not been mentioned yet at all! Although not one of my favorite movies, the quintessential road movie for me is Two-Lane Blacktop. I can really appreciate the purity of it I think, and the kind of people you'd really find living on the road. Jim Jarmuch's first film Stranger than Paradise is a favorite of mine that I think would qualify. And I think his most recent film Broken Flowers does as well. Many people mentioned Natural Born Killers which is really a more specific genre of a crime spree on the road type movie. There area couple movies that I think far surpass this film in this genre. Specifically at the top are Badlands and Bonnie and Clyde. For my favorite comedies that feature road trip elements, I'd mention Dumb & Dumber, and Borat. And also The Wizard when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Body: As is usually the case when a great big stupid Daily Mail fuss is made about a Film ,and a newspaper campaign effectively marks it with a badge of dishonour,laying all sorts of instigation of crime and violence at it's door. When you actually see the film ,you think,what is wrong with these people? This is a black comedy,a very heavy satire on the likes of Geraldo Riviere ,and the sensationalism of exploitative journalism,and the way it is lapped up by "us lot"...It's pretty funny, but the satire is so arch,and ridiculously overplayed ,that noone in their right mind could say that it condones any of the fictitious actions of these fictional characters.Visually and aurally it's a treat,mixing in animated visuals,and a whacky soundscape. I do like the film,although it's nowhere near as good ,or bad,as the hype!

Body: Asia Argento's The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things is dark and disturbing film. Not knowing Leroy's work, I can not comment on the accuracy to the book. It is not meant to be uplifting but has a strange attraction like voyeuristically watching a car wreck. The film is carried in the acting of both Sarah (Asia Argento) and Jeremiah (Jimmy Bennett, Cole and Dylan Sprouse). Young Jeremiah (Jimmy Bennet) barely speaks but absorbs everything in a fearful way. Older Jeremiah (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) has lost the haunting fear in his eyes, and replaced it with a longing desire to belong. Sarah is manic and wild and bounces from lover to lover in her own haze. Between both of them there is a strange form of love. It is not healthly or wise, but it does exist. Another acting kudo must go to Peter Fonda as the Patriarch fundamentalist with his own long line of issues. Argento's filming style and screenplay bring the viewer to the same state as the character over and over again. Her style is similar to Tarantino's Natural Born Killers, and Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The camera switched from Jeremiah's eyes to the world in a symbiosis of light and sound. When Jeremiah is young, the camera pans up to see everyone. When he is older, it never seems quite in focus. Argento's style also has many elements of David Lynch. The screenplay has elements of Running with Scissors (a sane child in a dysfunctional family) but makes Scissors surpringly tame. Thirty minutes in to the film the music becomes a dischordant mess. It is more than a foreshadowing of the characters but a synopsis of the film. It is uneven, unpleasant and hard to watch. It is also risk taking with characters and ideas. It's easier to watch the horse riding into the sunset than to watch this film. This film leaves a mark on the viewer's brain that doesn't wash out.

God Bless Robert Downey Jr. lolSecond would be ummmmmmm......The Life of David Gale...... I thought for sure through the whole movie I was on the right track and at the end I was actually left with my mouth hanging open. This was the most real and well sick ending I've seen. Sick in the sense that you felt the bottom of your stomach drop out when what happens happens...... I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone and if you haven't seen it .......... put it on the top of your list you won't regret it. Third would be ........... ummmmm Again War of the Worlds......... the first time I saw it I didn't expect the ending at all............ who knew that because we as humans are so filthy it is also a weapon lol lol lol
