Plot: Former NBC intern and Get a Life creator Chris Elliott stars as the title character, a recent graduate of the exclusive Fancy Lad Academy who unwittingly boards the wrong sea vessel and ends up a whipping post for its gruff, foul-mouthed crew after his predecessor (Andy Richter of The Late Show) falls overboard. Over the course of their adventures, Elliot eventually earns the respect of the crew as he also earns his manhood. This supremely silly film features sight gags and tastelessness galore, including a love scene with a woman who's all hands -- literally. Elliot's old boss David Letterman appears in an amusing unbilled cameo as a sarcastic villager in port. Body: A number of my guilty pleasure films involve getting away to tropical destinations. Besides Joe vs the Volcano, there is the wacky Captain Ron which I've probably seen upwards of 30 times and somehow never gets old. "Have ya heard of Pomme de terre? We're going there." "Doesn't that mean potato?" Cabin Boy is too much crazy for some, but I can never get enough of it. Jealous giants, shark men, virginity stealing goddesses and flying cupcakes that spit tobacco are all encountered along the way to a Hawaiian resort. Fun times. Scooby-Doo had the gang heading to a haunted island theme park. And a blonde Isla Fischer! Jaws the Revenge has Ellen Brody finishing the job her husband started in the beautiful clear blue seas of the Bahamas. Who knew Great White Sharks could roar? Some not so favorites that fit the theme: The Blue Lagoon - Despite a nude Brooke Shields, this movie was always a little too creepy for me. First cousins getting their swerve on just isn't cool. The Island of Dr. Moreau - Freaky animal / human people and piano playing little people made this too bizarre even for me. Club Dread - Had its moments, but was a little too derivative of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and Club Paradise. Exit to Eden - Rosie O'Donnell and skin tight bondage garb. :(

This concept was considered science fiction until today, when google revealed its horrendous prejudice: If we expect google to be an ethical entity it must be held accountable for its moral shortcomings. Body: What is the difference between a great comedy and a really funny movie? Is one easily classifiable and the other too subjective? It’s quite possible. Billy Wilder’s Some Like it Hot is considered by many academics and critics to be the best comedy film of all time. I won’t argue, as I’m not an expert on the craft of comedy, but despite the fact that I enjoy the film, it’s not one that makes me laugh much. Meanwhile I’ll fall on the floor laughing at parts of Cabin Boy, which I know is not a well-made movie, and which I don’t even especially like. So, the question is, how does one award comedy? Every year during the awards season, people talk about how comedies and comedic performances are largely overlooked. I’ve already commented once on the subject, regarding this year’s Golden Globe nominations, but since then I’ve noticed more complaints about overlooked comedies, and in most instances there seems to be a confusion about what it really means to be a great comedy and what is just a funny movie.?? Today, the IMDb linked to the Misfortune Cookie Blog and its honoring of “the year’s funniest in film.” The site references Knocked Up and Juno as “comedic achievements” that will go unrecognized (never mind that Juno is a Best Picture Oscar front-runner) yet also makes the point of naming Superbad the “Funniest Movie of the Year” with a disclaimer stating that it is not the “best movie, or best-written, or most likely to change your life.” So, what is the argument?
