I kind of see all heros as being fucked up in one way or another. Perhaps the whole greek tragedy with their flawed hero characters has stuck with me since high school. Body: I would have to say that Saikano is one the saddest anime I have ever seen. It is definitely a series I enjoyed regardless. I would also say that Black Lagoon had some rather depressing episodes especially the last couple in the 2nd season. As a warning, Black Lagoon is definitely NOT for anyone under 17 years of age in my opinion. It is hands down one of the most violent, bloody, and mature anime series I've ever seen. I've recently been watching a series called Monster. It is very well done, and doesn't fit into the typical genre-types of anime. It is a mystery, thriller, drama, with some action and a bit of horror. I wouldn't say this series sad in a wistful emo kind of way like Saikano, but it certainly has moments of sadness.
