<strong>Title:</strong> Return to House on Haunted Hill<br/>
<strong>Year:</strong> 2007<br/>
<strong>Director:</strong> Victor Garcia<br/>
<strong>Plot:</strong> When the lone survivor of the original excursion to The House on Haunted Hill dies under suspicious circumstances, her sister returns to the foreboding mansion to solve the mystery of her sibling's death in the feature directorial debut of former make-up special effects artist Victor Garcia (<a href=/films/227708/default.aspx style='text-decoration:underline'>Hellboy</a>). Back in 1931, malevolent doctor Richard Vannacut and his entire staff at the hilltop asylum were killed when the patients revolted and set the institution ablaze. Ever since then, rumors have persisted that the spirits of those consumed in the inferno still haunt the hospital. Those rumors seemed to be confirmed when, in 1999, billionaire Steven H. Price and his guests were viciously slaughtered in the refurbished mansion. Though the authorities officially blamed Price himself for the gruesome massacre, survivor Sarah Wolfe insists that there was indeed a supernatural element at play. Now, eight years have passed since that fateful night, and Sarah's sister Ariel - a successful editor at a popular men's fashion magazine - has just received word that Sarah has committed suicide. Immediately sensing foul play, Ariel's suspicions are confirmed when a strange book arrives in the mail shortly thereafter. Sent by Sarah just before she died, the book proves to be Vannacut's personal diary. According to the diary, which Ariel manages to translate with a little help from archeologist Richard Hammer, an ancient Baphomet idol is hidden somewhere deep within the sprawling estate. In her last days, Sarah had become convinced that the idol was the source of the house's evil. Richard, too, shares this belief, and with the help of graduate students Michelle and Kyle he is determined to find the idol. But Ariel isn't about to go on a ghost hunt in the same mansion where so may atrocities have occurred, at least not until she is kidnapped by Desmond Niles and his vicious band of mercenaries. They too seek the Baphomet idol, and they too will soon discover why few people who venture into the former asylum ever come out alive. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide<br/>

<strong>Body:</strong> Righteous Kill reunites two acting greats, Al Pacino ("Ocean's Thirteen") and Robert De Niro ("Stardust"). I was intrigued enough to get to the theater, but really the film is just a glorified made-for-TV cop drama. It's very predictable. Neither De Niro or Pacino really bring anything new to their roles of cops tracking a serial killer who is probably one of their own. I did enjoy seeing De Niro play the more angry role. Just wait for this to come on cable. With funnywomen Tina Fey ("30 Rock") and Amy Poehler ("Saturday Night Live") in the leads, Baby Mama should have been a big basket of funny. But, alas, it was not. Fey wants a baby, but is unable to conceive, so she hires Poehler to be her surrogate. Poehler is white-trash. Fey is upscale business. I guess writer/director Michael McCullers ("Thunderbirds," Baby Mama is his directorial debut) thought hijinks would ensue. However, the only funny bits were Poehler peeing in the sink and everything involving the doorman, Romany Malco ("The Love Guru"), who I couldn't get enough of. Also, Fey and love interest Greg Kinnear ("Ghost Town") have zero chemistry. Just skip it.The Getaway stars the ever cool Steve McQueen ("The Hunter") as a thief just released from jail. His wife, Ali MacGraw ("Glam"), has to do some shady stuff to get him an early release, and McQueen must pull off a heist for the corrupt warden once he's on the outside. The film is directed by Sam Peckinpah ("The Osterman Weekend") so there's loads of violence, slow motion and female issues. It also takes it's time getting where it's going. But McQueen is awesome, the shots are amazing. It's worth the time.Jules and Jim is a famous French movie from director Francios Truffaut ("Confidentially Yours"). Jules and Jim are great friends who fall for the same woman. Then there's lots of voiceover and ridiculous philosophizing. The girl will do anything to get attention and the men will put up with her shenanigans. I didn't really care for it. I couldn't get behind any of the characters. In fact, most of the time they made me really mad. And this distracted me from any other goodness the film may hold. Maybe I was in the wrong mood, but I didn't get why this is so great.Usually, with my love of bad horror movies, I can find something good to say about them, but I'm at a loss with Return to House on Haunted Hill. Even the ghosts weren't very creepy. Someone was drawn and quartered, so that was kind of neat. But bad acting, dialogue and plot just wiped that all out.<br/>

<strong>Body:</strong> 5:54 - Here comes director James McTeague, Naomi Harris, and… “arch rival of Stephen Colbert….RAIN!”
“Wow, it’s like mini-Twilight” someone says behind us when people start screaming for Rain.
5:51 - Now they’re on to Ninja Assassin, and when Joel Silver says the name “Rain” people go nuts. Although not quite the level of Twilight nuts that we witnessed earlier. Here’s a clip that Silver tells us is “Just for Comic-Con, so lets not talk about it to anyone else.”
“Raised to be a warrior…Trained to be a killer.” Scenes of kids training, teenagers training, adults shedding tons of blood with knives. This movie is all done in red and black, even with red and black washing machines in a laundromat scene. Someone cue the Les Miserables soundtrack. Ninjas, swords, explosions, car chases… I don’t really know what this is about, but there’s a lot of screaming and flying blood.
The ninja chucks a Chinese star at the screen, which turns into a little embellish between the words Ninja and Assassin in the logo.
5:50 - Now Silver is pimping out Whiteout, which we saw a lot of at last year’s Comic-Con. he basically tells us it stars Kate Beckinsale and Alex O’Loughlin from Moonlight, although “sadly, that’s over now.” They also have a movie called The Factory coming out, with John Cusack. “It’s a thriller, like Silence of the Lambs” according to Silver, and it’ll be out sometime in 2010.
5:46 - Writer Marc Andreyko and artist Jonathan Wayshak take the stage along with Erik Olsen again, to talk about the book, which hits stands in October. Will there be a movie version of Ferrymen? “That’s up to you guys!” says Erik. Based on the audience response, which is basically nil, I’d say that we won’t be seeing a Ferrymen movie anytime soon.
5:43 - Joel Silver is back to tell us about the Dark Castle comic book label that they’ve formed in conjunction with DC Comics’ Wildstorm imprint. They have their first book coming out called The Ferrymen, which they are about to show us a trailer for.

“Sell your soul to the devil, and there will be Hell to pay.” is the tagline for the book, written by Marc Andreyko, who co-wrote the brilliantly creepy Torso with Brian Michael Bendis.
5:41 - Erik Olsen, Sophie Monk, Tad Hilgenbrick, and John Carchiette take the stage to talk about the film. Sophie Monk wants everyone to know “There’s some seriously twisted stuff in this movie that I wouldn’t want my dad to see.”
No one asks any questions, ouch. Even though Sophie also tells us “I got so comfortable being covered in blood that I actually started going to the supermarket like that.” That’s method acting, folks. She also sings the creepy lullaby at the beginning of the trailer.
5:38 - Here’s a clip from The Hills Run Red, it opens with someone singing “Hush little baby, don’t say a word…” just so you know it’ll be creepy.
Razor blades, buckets of blood, naked girls, a creepy guy in a mask. It’s Horror Formula 101. Coming to DVD in 2009.
5:35 - Joel Silver pops on out stage, all chubby, sweaty, and swarthy. He’s telling us how geek movies aren’t the “bastard stepchild” of the movies anymore. “Those pictures you just saw have made about a billion dollars. And we’ve decided to broaden out the label to do other types of movies.”
Direct to video movies, that is: Return To House On Haunted Hill was last year, and this year is The Hills Run Red.
5:33 - They’re rolling out a clip reel to show us the “history of Dark Castle.” It’s a bunch of creepy movie scenes…there’s Thirteen Ghosts, Ghost Ship, Gothika, House of Wax, The Reaping…Creeptastic. A person sitting nearby says “Wow, they really make their company look a lot more exciting than it actually is. Originally posted on:SpoutBlog<br/>
