Body: "Descent" was complex and very raw emotion! This is like the old rape/revenge Exploitation. Out of 5, I would give it a four. Very much Along the lines of Gasper Noe's "Irreversible".
Body: Rosario Dawson gives an Oscar worthy performance as Maya, a very studious college student who becomes a victim of rape by a seemingly charming yet very creepy young man.Maya's life changes drastically after that traumatic experience ;so she begins to live a life unbecoming to her. She starts night clubing, taking drugs, and sleeping around, until she meets a certain someone who promises her that HE will be her savior. What does that mean?Unbeknowgst to us as an audience, Maya was plotting revenge against her attacker all this time. Will she use her "savior" to do this deed.? For those of you who haven't seen this film, will she be saved? Or did she just stooped to her rapist's level?Be forwarned for the most disturbing rape scene ever filmed!
Body:
One of my favorite horror action movies has to be Resident Evil 1 & 2, but after seeing the Descent, that is pretty high up there on my list now too. Let's see, I think Aliens would rank as an action movie as well as Predator, I also loved Alien vs Predator. I don't think Freddy vs. Jason would be considered that much of an action movie but it comes kind of close. I tell you the car chase scenes in Jeepers Creepers were really heart pounding (but I really don't think I would call that an action movie either...but there was quite a bit in it). What are some other action movies that scared you?
I have not yet seen "The Descent" , but I am intending to! Yes, June! I think that ALL of the movies you listed count as 'Horror/Action'! I call them 'Action/Adventure/Horror' so that I might fit a few more films under that 'umbrella'! Movies like "Jurassic Park" and "Deliverance" and "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" ( bet you did not think I could spell that, huh ROBERT? ... Twice, even! ...) I only JUST saw "Alien vs Predator" and I LOVED it! I liked this one BETTER than "Freddy vs Jason"! For a good dose of 'Action/Adventure/Horror' try Sam Raimi's FIRST movie (!) ... "Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except"
Body: I second The Descent as the last good scare. Not only did it make perfect use of its creepy, claustrophobic setting, but the suspense and action are really impressive. Reminded me of early James Cameron, especially the kick-ass women characters. The ending was a bit weak, but I understand there are other cuts that are better. Definitely worth checking out. Has anyone seen this guys werewolf pic Dog Soldiers? Been meaning to check that out. In terms of the latest wave of popular horror, I actually think Hostel is an extremely well made movie. I think it's a great cautionary tale of arrogent American tourists, and really taps into the real life horror of forced sex slavery throughout Eastern Europe. There's some great commentary via an obviously exagerated scenario.
