Title: Robotech [Anime Series]
Year: 1985
Plot: In 1985, Harmony Gold wanted to bring one of their mecha anime series over to American television but were met with a problem: none of the three series that they wanted to pitch met the 65-episode requirement for weekday syndication. Harmony Gold's solution to this problem was Robotech: Macross Saga. After much editing and rewriting, three unrelated series were combined to tell the story of three different generations fighting wars over the same issue: the use of a powerful energy source called Protoculture. The series Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada were the ones used, and while Robotech: Macross Saga is in no way simply an English version of any of these series, such strong elements of them remain that some ends left loose at the end of the original series are resolved within Robotech. The Robotech franchise has expanded greatly over the years, spawning many spin-offs and sequels. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide
Body: So lately I have been in the mood for some new series. For the most part I have been hitting sites like Anime News Network for listing and reviews, and then hitting up site like Veoh or Youtube to find the fansubbed pilots. It works, but I decided to bow to the wisdom of the crowds and just ask. What is worth watching? Any genres of Anime. I have a special place in my heart for Mecha and Space Opera types, but I figure I won't be the only person browsing, so post what YOU like of the last few seasons.I'll start. I'm really liking Macross Frontier. It actually feels like a real series, with its own ideas, but also plenty of nods and details for the old school Macross and Robotech fans. So far, I also think Blassreiter has some potential, even with the iffy CG work the 'villians' of the piece seem like they have some potential to do something different. So what do you like? what do you hate? What are you checking the Fansub torrent sites for weekly waiting for an update?
