<strong>Title:</strong> BloodRayne<br/>
<strong>Year:</strong> 2006<br/>
<strong>Director:</strong> Uwe Boll<br/>
<strong>Plot:</strong> The war against the forces of darkness becomes a family affair in this cinematic prequel to the popular video game Bloodrayne. In 16th century Europe, Lord Kagan (<a href="/players/P____38383/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Ben Kingsley</a>) is an evil ruler who holds more power than any man alive, but he still dreams of having more, and when he's told of three magic talismans who, when united, will give him intense supernatural strength and the gift of immortality, he will stop at nothing to attain them. However, three warriors who have learned how to battle the forces of darkness -- Vladimir (<a href="/players/P____44538/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Michael Madsen</a>), Katarin (<a href="/players/P___279286/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Michelle Rodriguez</a>), and Sebastian (Matt Davis) -- have formed the Brimstone Society, with the goal of stripping Kagan of his power and restoring justice to their land. They can't accomplish this on their own, though, so they enlist the aid of Rayne (<a href="/players/P___298123/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Kristanna Loken</a>), a half-human, half-vampire who can approach Kagan's sinister gifts while having a desire to do good. However, Rayne is torn about signing on with the Brimstone Society, and for a good reason -- Kagan is her father. Scripted by actress, screenwriter, and video-game enthusiast <a href="/players/P___228657/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Guinevere Turner</a>, BloodRayne also stars <a href="/players/P____12339/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Geraldine Chaplin</a>, <a href="/players/P____38082/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Udo Kier</a>, <a href="/players/P____78411/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Billy Zane</a>, <a href="/players/P____54997/default.aspx" style='text-decoration:underline'>Michael Paré</a>, and Meat Loaf Aday. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide<br/>

<title>Spout Post: Spike Lee to Direct Film Shot on Cell Phones</title>

<strong>Body:</strong> Sorry for the double-shot of Spike Lee news today — Karina gave us word earlier on his being honored by SilverDocs — but at least I’ve managed to squeeze an obligatory Uwe Boll mention into the post, too. Now you’re probably wondering: what could the director of Do the Right Thing possibly have in common with the director of BloodRayne? Well, here’s your answer: they’re both encouraging the democratization of movies.
Lee is doing so more intentionally, though, by teaming up with Nokia in order to “direct” a film entirely shot by everyday people on their cell phones. According to Reuters, the film will consist of three acts, each made by a separate cameraphonographer (my lame term for the competing cell-phone filmmakers). And according to Lee, there’s no need for you to be trained in the craft to enter:
“Aspiring filmmakers no longer have to go to film school to make great work. With a simple mobile phone, almost anyone can now become a filmmaker.”

Nokia will narrow down the contestants’ submissions to 25 videos, which will then be narrowed down to 10 by people voting online for their favorites. Then Lee will choose the three winners from those 10. Isn’t this kind of like a democracy where we vote for our top five Presidential candidates and then some politician gets to pick the actual commander-in-chief? For more info, check out Nokia Productions.
Meanwhile, someone has set up a whole blog devoted to something called “The Uwe Boll Movie Challenge,” which is inspired by the latest YouTube rant from the much hated filmmaker. The criteria is as follows:
To compete in the Uwe Boll Movie Challenge, you must create a short film that meets the following guidelines:
* It must be made at home.
* You must use ketchup.
* You must use a little brother.
* You must not use some bullshit nickname out of the internet.
* You have until May 16th.
Apparently there is no prize for this one “unless Uwe Boll decides to provide one.”

<strong>Body:</strong>
I was just reading on the SpoutBlog (here&#39;s the link to the article) about director Uwe Boll. If you haven&#39;t heard of him, he&#39;s the guy who directed such gems as House of the Dead and Bloodrayne. Apparently, there is a petition out to stop Boll from making any more movies. But, Boll said that it would take a million signatures to get him to stop filmmaking. The petition now has about 60,000 blog signatures.Okay. The SpoutBlog makes a good point that if you aren&#39;t going to see the movies anyway, why should you bother saying they suck in the first place? Well, here&#39;s a good reason: if you&#39;ve seen House of the Dead, you know that it sucks. Really. Really. Hard. It sucks SO much, that when I, personally, heard that Boll directed Bloodrayne, I crossed it off my "to see" list. He also directed Alone in the Dark which, wasn&#39;t necessarily horrible, but it weren&#39;t good neither. All the movies he makes, by the way, are usually based on video games, in case you didn&#39;t catch that. I have a friend who absolutely HATES Uwe Boll. I&#39;m not a hating kind of person. But, I must say, he does suck. I like the picture of him giving the finger, though. That earned him a couple points in my book. Anyway, what do yous all think? Should Boll stop directing? Or should everyone stop whining and bitching and just go see Postal? And Far Cry? And Bloodrayne 3?
Ok.... I don&#39;t think ANYONE should be &#39;banned&#39; from making movies, no matter how bad they suck... I have seen &#39;House Of The Dead&#39; and it truly sucks... this is probably the WORST movie I have ever seen! (and that is saying a LOT!) ... but it is STILL a Horror Movie and it is better than the best romantic comedy... So where does that leave us... I hate it because it is terrible and yet I still love it...<br/>

There are always going to be "good" directors and "bad" directors, "good" screenplays and "bad" screenplays, et. al. It may not be any kind of majority, but some people do like his films and I think he serves a purpose (however inane it may be).Personally, I had wanted to see Bloodrayne when I found out that Guinevere Turner was scripting it (I liked Go Fish and The Notorious Bettie Page and loved American Pyscho) and was completely horrified when I had seen the final product. Interestingly, I was able to talk with Guinevere in L.A. through a friend of mine that was friends with her friends or some weird six degrees of separation like that. Anyways, I wanted to talk to her about Bloodrayne and when I barely finished speaking the word she rolled her eyes and made a look of disgust on her face that pretty much explained everything. She briefly mentioned fighting with Boll and his people over the script and how most of it was taken out of her hands because he had final approval and by the end she decided to not take her name off the film because she was getting a decent paycheck out of it.Hearing all that was a big wakeup call for me about the real Hollywood and the practices that go on and so on. It also shed some light on why his films seem so singular: because he&#39;s a Nazi with every aspect of production of the them.<br/>

If you haven&amp;#39;t heard of him, he&amp;#39;s the guy who directed such gems as House of the Dead and Bloodrayne. Apparently, there is a petition out to stop Boll from making any more movies. But, Boll said that it would take a million signatures to get him to stop filmmaking. The petition now has about 60,000 blog signatures.Okay. The SpoutBlog makes a good point that if you aren&amp;#39;t going to see the movies anyway, why should you bother saying they suck in the first place? Well, here&amp;#39;s a good reason: if you&amp;#39;ve seen House of the Dead, you know that it sucks. Really. Really. Hard. It sucks SO much, that when I, personally, heard that Boll directed Bloodrayne, I crossed it off my &amp;quot;to see&amp;quot; list. He also directed Alone in the Dark which, wasn&amp;#39;t necessarily horrible, but it weren&amp;#39;t good neither. All the movies he makes, by the way, are usually based on video games, in case you didn&amp;#39;t catch that. I have a friend who absolutely HATES Uwe Boll. I&amp;#39;m not a hating kind of person. But, I must say, he does suck. I like the picture of him giving the finger, though. That earned him a couple points in my book. Anyway, what do yous all think? Should Boll stop directing? Or should everyone stop whining and bitching and just go see Postal? And Far Cry? And Bloodrayne 3?</spout:body></item>

<strong>Body:</strong>
There are a number of accomplished actors who have worked with infamously bad filmmaker Uwe Boll: Sir Ben Kingsley; Geraldine Chaplin; Clint Howard. And many of those actors have worked with some great filmmakers. Yet who would think to ask Kingsley how Boll compares to Spielberg or Polanski, or Chaplin how Boll compares to David Lean or Robert Altman, or Howard how Boll compares to his brother Ron. Well, Shawn Adler of MTV Movies Blog decided that it would be really amusing if he asked Leelee Sobieski to comment on any similarities between Boll and Stanley Kubrick. Surprisingly, she managed to squeeze out a decent answer — at least considering she’s on camera to wholeheartedly promote her and Boll’s film In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale and has to say something nice about the director.
Sobieski may not be the best person to ask, though. She was only 15 when she appeared in Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, and that film isn’t even considered to be on par with the filmmaker’s regular work. Still, she obviously understands the clear distinctions between “the greatest filmmaker of all time” and “the worst director of all time,” as Kubrick and Boll are respectively labeled, and she gives a good response in saying that both ask a lot of questions and both deserve respect for getting things done and not being lazy. As for the rest, its a cop-out, though a good save publicity-wise, but still makes perfect sense as an apples vs. oranges kind of comparison. Even Kingsley, who has been in his share of terrible films (only one of which is Boll’s Bloodrayne) and likely has to defend his choices all the time, would probably say something along the same lines as Sobieski’s claim that people want to be stimulated in a “plethohra” of directions and that there’s room for intellectual films and “great” action movies.
