Body: I voted for Broken Flowers 'cause I just watched it last night and loved it. I kind think that it may do for me what Darjeeling Limited did though. DL was the first Wes Anderson film that I loved right off the bat. Since then, I've revisited his films and fallen head over hills for most of them.. Jarmusch has always been a director that I liked but never loved but I felt like I kinda "got" him (for lack of a better term) more so with Broken Flowers than I have with his other films. I now have a feeling like I want to revisit his other stuff and see if I like them more than the first go round.... But I'm not sure, Broken Flowers also really made me wanna re-watch Lost In Translation so maybe it's just Bill mutha-$%%in' Groundhog Day Murray.

Body: Undoubtedly my favorite film taking place in a hotel is The Shining. From beginning to end I love every frame of this flick. Another film based on a Stephen King story that also takes place in a hotel is 1408. The first time around the film kinda lost me during its uproarious second act, but after watching it again the other night, I was surprised at how amazingly chilling it actually was. A significant portion of Some Like It Hot takes place at a posh Florida resort. Lost in Translation was another film that mostly took place in a hotel. Actually most of the memorable scenes took place in the hotel: the fire alarm, the pool aerobics, the maniacal exercise equipment, the amazingly short shower spout, the karaoke bar, the flower arranging class, etc. As implied by its name, Grand Hotel is all about the misadventures of a group of guests at a swanky hotel. At the hotel to escape, we get that great line from Greta Garbo, "I want to be alone!" Last Holiday (I have only seen the remake with Queen Latifah) takes place in an insanely luxurious hotel in the Czech Republic. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was a non-stop romp from hotel to hotel, trashing each room beyond all recognition. Forgetting Sarah Marshall featured yet another luxury resort, this time in Hawaii and occupied by the lovely Mila Kunis (Kristen Bell isn't that bad either). And of course Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Thirteen (I barely remember Twelve) showed us the in's and out's of pulling a fast one on a Vegas casino - and just how insane those penthouse rooms that most of us will never get a chance to stay in look like.

It's about a guy traveling the country, entering as many Karaoke contests as he can. He does the same song every time, George Jones' 'The Grand Tour' I've also been watching some Korean movies lately. There always seems to be a good Karaoke scene in those. A Dirty Carnival and Memories of Murder are two good examples. Anyway, it's part of pop-culture; therefore, you will see it in movies until it dies out. What do y'all think?

Charlotte is at a turning point in her life, having not long graduated, she has no idea what she wants to do or be and is questioning her marriage.After exchanging glances in a lift, the two characters are united in a hotel bar and their friendship begins. The two fill different roles in each other's lives, Charlotte needs the attention that Bob provides, while Charlotte seemingly reminds Bob of how much he adores his wife and children. The title of the film hearkens to the obvious aspects of being in a foreign country, but also the stages in life that both characters have drifted into.Weaved in and out of Bob and Charlotte's relationship are gorgeous shots of the city of Tokyo which do more to show the beauty of the place than any travel brochure ever could. For those who haven't seen Bottle Rocket, it's a quirky slacker comedy/heist flick, like...Reality Bites meets Ocean's 13. This edition has loads of special features including eleven deleted scenes and the original 13-minute, b&w Bottle Rocket short from 1992. 2. Burn After Reading -- Watch the trailer. In this gritty, hallucinatory murder mystery, Depp is an opium-addicted detective on the trail of Jack the Ripper. Dark stuff, but worth a look. 2. The Jake Gyllenhaal Triple Feature is definitely worth some consideration as well. Donnie Darko -- Watch the trailer. The movie that made befuddled teens everywhere watch a film commentary for the first time, Donnie Darko is charming, touching, and strange. Very good, but in my opinion the real gem of this set is the The Good Girl. The Good Girl -- Watch the trailer. In this very under-appreciated dark comedy, Gyllenhall is a sensitive teen obsessed with J.D. Salinger (what sensitive teen isn't?) and has a short-lived affair with Jennifer Aniston. Aniston is unhappily married to a pot-smoking John C. Reilly. Great minor role from Tim Blake Nelson. The Day After Tomorrow -- Watch the trailer. Bombastic and boring, but hey--two good films out of three ain't bad! Other new triple features: Gene Hackman (The French Connection, Hoosiers, Mississippi Burning), Tom Hanks (Bachelor Party, The Man With One Red Shoe, That Thing You Do!), Kevin Costner (Bull Durham, Dances With Wolves, No Way Out). 3. Hamlet 2 -- Watch the trailer. Steve Coogan is really talented, but the trailer doesn't quite sell me on it. Does anyone recommend it? 4. Death Race -- Watch the trailer. This is a big-screen prequel to the mind-bending comedy series that starred Amy Sedaris and a pre-fame Stephen Colbert. (He played the science teacher Mr. Noblet, remember?) 3. Ghost Town -- Watch the trailer. Ricky Gervais (of The Office and Extras) can see ghosts, and one of them is Greg Kinnear. I've heard some good things about this film. 4. Bangkok Dangerous -- Watch the trailer. This is the one where Nic Cage uses a boat propellor to cut off a guy's hand. 5. An American Carol -- Watch the trailer. Kelsey Grammar plays the Scrooge character in this spoof of the classic Christmas tale. 6. Babylon A.D. -- Watch the trailer. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Michelle Yeoh would kick Vin Diesel's butt. 7. The Love Guru -- Watch the trailer. Paul Moore saw this Mike Meyers vehicle, and Paul said that although it's not bad per se, we've seen all these jokes before in the Austin Powers series. Re-releases 1. I like how you can just switch around the words in the titles to get ideas for new ninja movies: Phantom Cyber Force, Golden Hood Hunt, Ninja Kids Invasion, Golden Hunt of the Purple Cyber Swallow. Body: At this point Don Johnston has 4 votes, Steve Zissou has 7, and Bob Harris has 8. I think Don Johnston actually shot out into a couple vote lead at the beginning before Steve Zissou had a considerable lead for a while. But so far Bob Harris has come back to take the ultimate lead. This is kind of the kind of numbers I expected, but the main point is that it gets some discussion going. I've just posted a new poll, but I'll let each of these polls stay open for a couple weeks after I post them so people who haven't voted yet can still get their vote in before we get the final numbers. Which I'm really not surprised by even though I haven't seen either of them. I don't even know if he has a "major" role in City of Embers. 2003's Lost in Translation was the first top billing movie he had since 1997's The Man Who Knew Too Little. And other than Groundhog Day, I'm not sure if he'd had had any major roles that had this high of a ratio of "drama" compared to the "comedy" (if you can really separate those two things when they appear to their fullest extent). I also see he was recently in the movies Get Smart and The Lost City. Niether of which I have seen either. Does anyone know how big of a role he had in these films? And if they are worth watching?

Of those, I'm most inclined to pick Lost in Translation because I enjoyed the movie so much more than Broken Flowers, and it wouldn't be what it is without Bill; however, the reason I most enjoyed Broken Flowers was because Bill Murray's turn as Don Johnston was perfection. That's not a waver, that's just a comment :-). PS, Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors, and even if I'm not especially fond of a movie (e.g. Coffee and Cigarettes), any movie experience is infinitely improved for me when he appears in the movie. Also, wonderful idea for a group, Rizzo. I like polls too.
