Title: Revolutionary Girl Utena [Anime Series]
Year: 1997
Plot: When Utena Tenjou was a little girl, both of her parents died. In her moment of grief and loss, a prince found her and wiped her tears. He left with her a ring featuring a rose seal on it, and told her that one day the ring would lead her back to him, and Utena grew up determined to be a prince just like the good, nobleman who helped her. Now, several years later, the teenage girl attends Ohtori Academy, where she dons her own version of a boy's uniform, still determined to somehow be a prince. One day at school, she reprimands a boy, Kyôichi Saionji, for mistreating the girl he is with. The boy recognizes the rose signet on Utena's ring and challenges her to a duel. An excellent fencer, Utena accepts, only to find that this is no harmless duel between students; the boy is a member of the student council. These four elite students each bear a rose crest ring and fight duels in a magical, hidden arena. When Utena wins, she is given "possession" of the mistreated girl, Anthy Himemitya who the council members call the "Rose Bride." Utena has no wish to possess anyone but she must continue fighting duels in order to protect Anthy, who has become her dear friend. It is a dangerous game to play though, as Utena uncovers more strange secrets about a mysterious organization that the council takes orders from, known as "The End of the World." Just who are these forces and why are they sending more and more students into the arena to duel for the Rose Bride? Could all of this somehow lead Utena to her long lost prince? ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide
Body: You could check out our group's lists. They are divided into different genres and have a lot of anime in them, so they would probably be very helpful to you. As for my personal recommendations, my favorite titles include Fullmetal Alchemist, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Ouran High School Host Club, Wolf's Rain, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Mushi-shi, and Kashi-mashi. I would also recommend watching any of Studio Ghibli's films. I can make many more recommendations if you'd like, thought I'd just give you a few to start you off though. :)
Body: I feel that subs are better because in most shows they take out the most violent parts when they dub them and it screws up the entire series makin people think that its just a little kid show with no violence or any adult humor at all
Body: I have a couple of the Fullmetal Alchemist soundtracks. The music is really good, but most of it's sooo depressing. As for favorite openings/closings to series, there are so many good ones. I love all the Fullmetal ones, Catch You Catch Me from Card Captor Sakura, Life is Like a Boat from Bleach, Ride on Shooting Star from FLCL, Lonely in Gorgeous from Paradise Kiss, Sakura Kiss from Ouran Host Club, Cyclone from Romeo X Juliet, Mask from Sorcerer Hunters, and of course many many others, those are just a few I could think of off the top of my head. I also love the theme songs as well as all the scores from Revolutionary Girl Utena. I'd like to get the soundtrack from that some day, the music is so beautiful.
Body: I'd never been there before, but it seems like a pretty good site. For looking up information about series I like to use animenewsnetwork.com. Usually when I watch anime online I use youtube or crunchyroll.com because my computer can't really handle downloading all that stuff (plus i don't have a bittorrent player so most downloads I can't watch anyways.) I used to download off realitylapse.com, they're pretty good, that's where I first watched FMA and Chobits.I think the first anime series I watched entirely on DVD was Utena. I watch most of my stuff online ^^;; The only series I own fully on dvd are Utena, FMA, Captain Tylor, and Please Teacher (though I watched FMA and Please Teacher online before buying them. Actually, I think you'd like Please Teacher alot if you watched it.) I have most of DearS on dvd now, I just haven't gotten around to watching any of it ^^;; But I have alot of the series I've watched partially on dvd, plus I buy a ton of the merchandise, so it makes me feel better about watching them online ^^;;
